As for the pickups...they're a ~5 minute swap, even easier on the San Dimas'. My favorite Duncan is the Custom with a close second place being a JB wth an Alnico 8 magnet swapped in (effectively an SH-15/Alt 8 if you wanna get technical). I was never a fan of the Tone Zone that came in the So Cals.

So Cal for aesthetics plus the top mount input jack. Changing the pickguard completely changes the look and vibe of the guitar and gives a wide variety of pickup choices.
