  • Waiting for my new Model 1A - pics inside (?)

I really needed (ahaha) another Charvel. Hey, I had none with a maple fretboard. How can you live without one? These show up very rarely here.

Condition is pretty decent, bridge and gears were changed to Gotoh, but I'm not that anal of a collector.

    Any comments?

Congratulations! I want one badly and hope I can score one cheaply.

The guitar came stock with a Gotoh bridge and Jackson-labeled Gotoh tuners anyway, so these aren't huge changes. However your bridge seems to look sturdier than the stock bridge. Your saddles look nicer, almost like Graphtech saddles. Perhaps they are. Your tremolo arm insert looks beefier, instead of the simple hole on the stock bridge.

It's quite possible your pickups are also changed. In stock form, they were Jackson J100s and had a white Jackson logo on them.

I have a Model 1 and a Model 1C but I would love to own a 1A specifically for the three single coil configuration because I find Strat sounds to be very appealing lately. With the 1A, you get the best of both worlds: It's a Strat with a killer shredder neck.

If you wanted to see pics of the stock single coils, bridge, and tuners, here are pics of my Model 1C: http://www.jcfonline.com/threads/149...ig)-yay-or-nay

I whished for a cheap one too, but this one wasn't (360 eur shipped). But I never found another one so...who cares.
The bridge is a Gotoh with Graphtec, yes!
I have no info about the pickups yet, I'll open it up as soon as it arrives home. cool pics of yours!

nice one and welcome to the club. I think you're going to like your new guitar. I'm interested to hear how you like that bridge.

The knobs on yours have also been swapped. They came with metal domes.

My wife bought me a bog standard black Model 1A. I like the J100s but found the bridge a little shrill so swapped it out for a Texas Special. Only other change was the pickguard - I got tired of the black-on-black.
        Hail yesterday

          Congrats on your M1A
Great guitars and way under rated
Your pups might still be J100's, some didn't come with Jackson logos.

Best M1A video of all time....

          Enjoy!

                Awesome video! Thanks!
For the pots, I think I'll switch them back to metal domes, as I don't like conventional strato pots very much. Also I need to find a backplate, as it's missing (WHY are these ALWAYS missing?? I mean...why does people remove them in the first place? Honestly..I don't understand!)

Generally they're removed to allow easy access to trem claws for spring adjustment but that seems less relevant on a strat style bridge than a Floyd.

We have members who despise truss rod covers and won't allow them to be installed on new builds. Different strokes.

I understand but...why lose them ??? I hate to go hunting for the back covers ! Well who cares, this one was delivered this afternoon, so as soon as I get home I'll be able to test it a bit .

Congratulations! Looking forward to reading your review of your guitar.

A JCFer runs this site and makes his own high quality replacement parts: http://www.fretsonthenet.com/

I don't understand how people lose cavity covers either. I like the guitar covered up to hide the tremolo cavity and electronics cavity. It looks "cleaner" to me. Out of sight, out of mind. Really, unless you frequently change string gauges/brands, how often do you need to make adjustments to the tremolo undercarriage? Ibanez thought ahead by including holes in clever places so you can make adjustments to the tremolo undercarriage without removing the cavity cover, as seen below.

Thanks I'll drop an email to frets on the net as soon as i make a list of the parts I need.
I had the chance to play this guitar just like 30-40 minutes yesterday, unplugged: I have to say it's AWESOME. The feeling of the neck is great. To me, it feels better than any Fender Strat I ever owned. The bridge is actually a Gotoh with Graphtec saddles, and looks really fine. It plays really smooth: I love it . Next prey to hunt is a maple neck with dual humbuckers!

Unfortunately, maple fretboard with dual humbuckers is uncommon in the Model Series in stock form. The only one I could find is the Model 1A2H.

As an alternative, you could get another maple fretboard Model Series that has a pickguard (Model 1A, Model 1AF, Model 13AS, Model 1A1S1H, Model 3M) and swap just the pickups and pickguard for a dual humbucker version. The one below belongs to JCFer Grandturk and it's a Model 1A.

If my guess is correct, all these bodies had a swimming pool route as seen below, allowing maximum flexibility. You could remove your Model 1A pickguard to look underneath and confirm.

Another alternative is the Charvel Pro-Mod Series which debuted in 2008. Maple fretboards with dual humbuckers are common, and they're awesome instruments, but they don't feel like Model Series guitars (Model necks feel thinner to me). I think rosewood fretboards were introduced in 2016 on the hardtail models.

YEs that's really a lot of space to customize! Probably that's the way, I'll have to hunt for one (or two) to customize.
