  • Charvel 275 Information

    Hi all,

I found this pretty neat 275 and I'm thinking about grabbing it. The guitar looks to be in an overall good condition, but I'm searching for some information from the experts here. The ad states it's a 90, but the bridge (I'm basing my guess on the info on charvelusa dot com) is a JT6. That should mean it's a 89. Well, the year does not matter a lot to me, what matters is: is the JT6 really as awful as I'm told?
I dig the original pickups with the slanted singles look and the fact that the covers are there and with a clean logo.

Anybody know the name of this color?

    Thanks!

That is not a JT6. That should be a JT570, a single locking tremolo.

    http://charvelusa.com/charvel_models...1990_1991.html (Look for "275")

    The JT6 is double-locking. http://audiozone.dk/index-filer/Trem...roject.htm#jt6

I have zero experience with either tremolo, but in stock form, I would pick any double-locking bridge over a single-locking one. However, you can see in the first link above that you can quite easily modify the JT570 to become double-locking by swapping the saddles and locking bolts. At a glance, the JT570 also looks identical in dimensions to the JT590 which suggests to me it would be easy to swap for an OFR-type, but I am really guessing here, in the name of exploring viable options for you.

      Hi, thanks for the info.

JT570 is probably the worst of all the options .
I dig the body color but that bridge could just be a complete turn off for me. For what I know the JT570 should be switchable with a Schaller (like the Tremolo Right for example), I may have one floating around but it's silver and would not look good on that.

I would approach it from an economic perspective. If you can get that 275 very inexpensively, even after swapping the trem (or just the saddles and bolts) and the total overall cost is still very low, then it is a good deal. That 275 does look to be in great condition.

If the lack of a true humbucker in the bridge position bothers you, here is some discussion about the bridge pickup. https://www.google.ca/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=...+bridge+pickup
