Charvel what?? newbie needs help with ID

Hi everyone

Just bought my first Charvel after lusting since the 80's.

Well the neck says Charvel but I haven't been able to identify the rest of it.

I can't find a neck/pickup combo/ knob combination that matches online.

It's returnable but was only $100.

I think pics would tell the story best.

So did I buy a FrankenCharvel?

Pups look like cheap replacements but I don't mind getting better ones.

Keep or return? I'm a beginner so I'm not yet able to hear what sounds good yet. This one sounds ok to me.

A 21-fret Charvel neck with pointy headstock? That's odd, probably not a Charvel. Truss rod cover is also wrong for a Charvel.

In addition to what toejam said...

The headstock logo is too far shifted towards the headstock tip (ie - incorrect decal placement).

The body is likely a Yamaha Pacifica body. Same shape, contours, pickguard, etc.

I can't tell if the body shape is odd or if the pickguard is causing an optical illusion.

How does it play, sound, and feel? Not gonna find much for less than $100. So if cheap was your goal and it plays well, you did well. If Charvel was your goal and that's the only reason you bought it, I would revert back to the beginning and "how does it play, sound, and feel?", then repeat the cycle in a loop until you've decided if you're keeping it.

And sound is a completely personal thing.

Nah... it's a Model series neck... you can see the holes in the close up shots for the lock plate. The logo is correct.
Someone reshaped the heel to fit that body.

Sorry to tell you, but you have half a Charvel.

Not just reshaped the neck heel, but cut off a fret! Well, as long as it plays well, cool.

I stand corrected on the neck. Charvel Model Series neck it is.

I still maintain the body is a Yamaha Pacifica body.
