Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first was a brand new Pearl White '90 375 Deluxe with J90C/J100/J100 pups. I paid mid to upper $500s for it with case. It was a great guitar, although I really wanted a 650XL, which was financially beyond my reach at the time and ebay did not exist in 1990. The J90C sounded awesome, but I was not a fan of the J100 (non-hum cancelling) singles. Actually back then I didn't like any singles at all.

After I scored a KILLER 475 Deluxe a few years later, I sent the 375 packing. I still have the 475 now, 12 years later, it is one scarifying shred guitar.

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel was a 750XL that I bought 2 years ago. Originally I wanted a USA Hamer Californian which I found a short time later. I always wanted a Charvel from the 1989/90 series (the Spectrum was my favorite then). Though my main guitars are by Hamer, Fender and Gibson, I must admit I like the new american Charvels, I'd like a copper snakeskin Star w/ebony board and a lightning sky HSS San Dimas w/ birdseye maple board and gold hardware. and of course, I still keep my 750XL (cherry sunburst is my favorite color)

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

Mine first is a metallic black 650xl. I had walked into a Guitar Center in NY looking for a Floyd'd guitar, At the time I didn't know much about Charvels, only that I wanted one. Sure enough, I walked into the used section and found it. I rushed over and grabbed it. Now currently it rests right next to my Model 88 happily

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel was an '89 275, black, JT6, J90C in bridge and a slanted single in the neck. Bought it new from a local store for around $500 back in '89. It was my main guitar for many years and recorded our stuff with it and all our shows. Still have it and would never sell it.

An orange/yellow sunburst 375 Deluxe with EMG's. Very lush sounding with the most killer neck. I sold it to my brother a few months ago and it is now his favorite guitar. At least I still get to play it

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel is naturally my 375DLX which I sort of traded for my Dinky Std... I was looking for something different and I found it with this one.

I got it with the stock Jackson Pups but Installed Dimarzios not quite long ago and now it rocks.
It plays great and it sounds great with Distortion,
Clean could be better though but I guess
you can't have both...

That's about it...

Cheers!

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

First charvel was a San Dimas pointy with one HB, and a kahler. Maple fingerboard. Paid $260 for it, with tweed case.

First IMPORT Charvel was a model 88, paid less for it than the san dimas above. Dang, I long for the good ol' days when pawn shops really didn't know what was up with Charvels...

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel was actually a Charvette. I'm not sure what model it was, but it was H/S/S with a strat style trem. The color resembled urine after way too many B vitamins. I bought it new back in the summer of '88. I had an old motorcycle that was too big for me at the time (I was only 14) so I traded it to my guitar instructor for his candy apple red Model 3. I played that guitar for a couple of years and then traded it in on a US Jackson Soloist. What a guitar for a 17 year old! I'm Charvel-free these days, but plan on picking one up sometime in the near future.

Ah yes, Twisteramps, I still prey upon the idiots at the pawn shop.My first was a Model 4 with a cracked headstock.I found it in a pawn shop for 100 bucks.20 years later the glue still holds and she plays like a champ.I have a problem with selling guitars because I always seem to regret it.But some nice Gibsons,Esp,and ect have come and gone and I still own every Charvel and Jackson guitar that I have ever owned. Some play better than others, but none of them play bad.As soon as I get my youngest boy to teach me how to use the camera, I will post pics. Thanks Rev.Timmy

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first was a beautiful strat that I bought in 1982, when I was 18. I had never heard of Charvel, and the guitar store didn't even have any. They told me they saw them at the show and were impressed, so I oredered one. ($1000 bucks, thanks for the college savings bond grandma). Incredible guitar, I still have it. I had three other 1983-84 ones during the metal era, but sold those (Oh, if I only had them now)

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

I was 20 years old when I bought a black '87 model 3 that was about a month old from a buddy who got himself into some financial trouble. He had paid somewhere between $600 and $700 (I can't remember the exact price) for it at Elderly in Lansing, Mi. He sold it to me for $300. Prior to that my only guitars had been an SG bodied Melody Maker, a bolt on neck Phil Collen Destroyer and a Lotus Steinberger headless ripoff. I learned quickly what playing a fast guitar was all about. When I was about 25, I had to sell the guitar along with my '63 Fender Showman amp because of a divorce. I was crushed and quit playing for about 10 years. About 3 years ago on New Years Eve, I was at a buddies and I noticed a strat and an amp in the corner. He and I got to talking and the next thing I new, I was buying Charvels off of ebay. I bought a pearl white (now pearl yellow) Model 3 (nice shape, a few minor dings and one minor finish crack) and swapped the factory Kahler for a model 2700 (fantastic improvement, btw...much nicer trem and it still uses the factory rocker posts!). I bought a red Model 3(good shape, one healthy ding on the bottom) and did the same trem mod and gave it to my daughter (13, and playing for a year and a half), and I bought a Model 1 (sss) in yellow that looks like it came out of the box. Truly MINT condition. Here's the kicker... I bought all 3 Charvels on ebay about 3 years ago for $150 each! Gotta love it! Although I have more lately come to appreciate the quality, tone, and playability of higher end Les Pauls, there is no better guitar value out there than the Charvel Model series! And nothing beats 'em for reproducing the 80's hair band stuff! Rock On!
later,
Al
