• Tell us about your first Charvel

I've noticed a bunch of first-time Charvel owners here posting. Congrats to you all, and I hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

Now, you people who are long-time Charvel-philes, what made it your guitar of choice?

I give credit to a distant cousin who was my first guitar teacher when I was 15. He had this unearthly looking black Charvel star, and he helped me find my Model 2 used. I've never bought any guitar but a Charvel since. I loved that not everybody had one (like Ibanez or Fender!). I love the way it felt and looked, and that it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

My first Charvel was a Model 6, cobalt blue, JT-6 trem. It is now black with Pile 'O' Skulls graphic, Schaller Floyd, and 5 way switch. It is a killer player, and going nowhere soon.

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

I got my model four from a guitar store in MD. THey send out a newsletter every couple of weeks, and it lists all their used gear. They had it listed as an 80's black charvel, and it was half off because it had been sitting there for a long time. I cut out of work early one day, because I had a mileage reimbursement check burning a hole in my pocket to check it out. It was an '86 model 4, black, with kahler, all original-for 175 bucks! It even came with the chainsaw case-all latched working! I had wanted a Charvel since I was like 14 or so, so i snatched it up. that was about two years ago, and I found this board trying to reseach it. It was all downhill from there!

<font color="aqua">My first one was a white model 3 that a friend was selling and I just had to have it. I then sold it off to acquire one of my "favoritest" (is this a real word? ) guitars that I had wanted since they came out. A Charvel Model 6 in:

I bought my Model 5 new back in '86. It still gets the most use of any of my guitars. It cost a pretty penny back then (a little over $700 I believe). The Les Paul Standard next to it was about $15 more, but I decided to get the Charvel anyway. I figured that I could always get a Les Paul. I've never really regretted getting the Charvel, it plays and sounds better IMO than the 2000 LP Classic that I recently sold.

An '87 Electric Blue Model 2, bought it brand new Christmas of that year.

The pointy headstock, the cool logo, and all my favorite players played a Charvel or a Jackson. That was my first "real" guitar. Wish I still had it.

My first (which led to many more) Charvel is a Pearl White Model 2 which I bought off eBay. It had a JT-6 on it, but it was replaced with a Schaller immediately after I received it and then later with an OFR. It's still one of the flagships in my collection. As a matter of fact, I bought another one just like it a couple months ago...

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first was my Charvel 650xl. My dad bought it new for me in 92, although it had an 88 serial number making it one of the first 650xls after being updated from the model 6s. Apparently it had been hanging around for a while. Perhaps no one like the sparkle silver finish. I actually had no idea what it was at the time. I had progressed past my first guitar and was in need of something a little higher in quality. It was the third guitar I tried out that day and I've loved it ever since. I've thrown in some Duncans (Distortion/Cool Rails/Hot Rails). To this day, I have not found a guitar that plays better than my 650xl. Even my 750xl and all of the USA Jacksons I've played don't measure up.

Model 5.
I loved the way it was.
Scott Ian was using a Jackson Soloist with 1 hum and Model 5 was something close that I could get.
It played great and I loved the sound.

my first one was a model 6. I wanted a soloist, but that is for a dutch student way out of reach and I figured the 6 was a good replacement. got mine completely beaten up, replaced all the usual parts, including PUs, new finish (now it has a Matrix graphic). my second charvel is on its way, a 750xl, can't wait to get it

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel was a Red '86 Model 3. I traded a Fender Contemporary Strat for it in a music store in Hartford, Connecticut when I was on vacation visiting my mother in the summer of 1986.

The Model 3 was an incredible player, especially compared to the Fender. Plus, it was more of a "heavy metal" guitar, and that's definitely what I wanted.

I actually got a really good deal on a then-new Model 88 at the same music store in Hartford on a subsequent trip to visit my mother.

found my Pearl White Model 2 hanging on the wall at a pawn shop, covered in finger grease and gunk, with strings like crusty old fencing wire. Of course, I had to buy her immediately! :grin

Brought her home &amp; pulled her apart, she had a Gotoh Floyd, Dimarzio Super 2 in the bridge &amp; an HS-3 added in the neck position, and her finish had aged to that beautiful metallic creme. Beautiful dark piece of rosewood for the fretboard. Reassembled &amp; restrung and she played like a dream. Would never part with her.

My first Charvel was a pearl white model 2. I got it from a guy who's band shared a practice studio with my band... back in 1990. I paid $125 for the guitar and an Ibanez rackmount graphic EQ. That was one of the best deals I have ever made.

It now looks like this...
