Hey John! Glad to see you're still enjoying the '88! Actually, I haven't really done anything to the 650XL yet. I guess I have too many other little things to fix and I just haven't gotten around to it. But I'll tell you...that one is a keeper. I love it! Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel was a USA pointy. I sold it when I went away to college in 1984. 10 years later, I purchased a model 2 in metallic pink on ebay for about $100.

Thanks, brutha' Dave! That's right...you guys both have '88's that used to be mine. Hey, btw, remember that Vantage you bought from me? A guy on the Dean forum just sold one exactly like that on ebay, and he got $550 for it! I couldn't believe it.

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first (of many!!) Charvel's was a Cobalt Blue Model 3DR bought back in 1989. I was drawn to it by it's reversed headstock and 7/8 sized body. It just screamed METAL to me. Over the years I fitted a Seymour Duncan HM Livewire amongst various other Pickups, I never liked the Jackson stock pickups (Humbuckers). Also, a Schaller Floyd II and a zero fret Locking Nut. It's also had a couple of re-sprays and a broken headstock!! I eventually sold it to the other Guitarist in my band who still uses it now. If he ever sells it, It's coming back home though!!

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel was a model 2 in 1989: I totally bastardised it over the years - added a neck humbucker, 3 way toggle and tone, then stripped the paint a-la Nuno, then got it painted with the Simpsons - it's in the gallery somewhere!

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel per se was a Metallic Black Cherry Model 4 with a Kahler that I acquired in June or July 2002. (I'd had Jacksons before) I still have the guitar, but it's a bit of a mutant now... I swapped the rosewood neck for a maple neck from a Model 1, and I swapped out the active electronics & mini toggles for a Duncan Custom 5, a Cool Rails, and a Gibson-style 3-way.

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

My first Charvel. I went guitar shopping with a bud a few years ago, he was looking for something new, I wasn't even looking. The owner of the store had this nearly mint Model 6 up on his counter. I played it and asked how much, $350. I said I'll think about it. Two days later I leave for a vacation in Canada and all I think about the whole time is that Charvel. I almost called my bud to go by and get it for me. So 2 weeks later I get home and the first thing I do is go to the store and and it's still there!

It's mine now and one of my favorites.

Re: Tell us about your first Charvel

my first charvel was a model 1 c in candy apple red with maple board. i went to the music store and compared the charvel to a black bc rich warlock. i later modded it with a floyd rose tremolo. the jackson pickups were a bit tired sounding. however, the guitar started my passion for pointy headstocks...and eventually lead me to jackson usa's.
