• Model 6 Arrived Today

As near to perfect as I could imagine a 1987 Model 6 could be.

One ding on the back, that's it. Not even buckle marks, or any dings on the pointy.

Said he was the original owner: had swapped the hum for a Dimarzio Fred, but included the original Jackson hum.

    Wow.

      Looks sweet! Congrats!

I must say, the most impressive thing about the guitar is that it came with the original tremolo bar!! Honestly, you see that about 1 outta 10 times (or less) when buying used! Guess it helped it was the original owner.

no black worn off the knobs, original trem bar, the JT-6 looks untouched, logos still on the pups. DId he ever take it out of the case? The white paint doesn't even look creamy yellow yet! THe only thing I can figure is you bought some blackmarket plutonium and fired up the flux capacitor.....

You don't want to know. How much, I mean.

Dave (Budman) alerted me via the efraid of ebay section, there is a post there.

p.s. Black Mojo 5 is doing well in my cousin's in east Texas. I'll pass along that you asked.

That's how they came. My Mod 2 I bought new had the same. Kinda weird cos it's a black trem.

I dunno what it looked like new, but I think it has yellowed. Pretty evenly, though.

He said he never gigged with it, and it looks like it. The mandatory one latch on the case was broken, and the frets are worn, so I'm not saying he didn't play it - but he sure treated it well.

Oh, and it doesn't smell like smoke (not that I would care) but dig this - you know what the guitar smells like? Like the case. Seriously, it has a strong inside-of-the-case smell.

Now, where is that Speed Mechanics book...

Sweeeet! I regret letting my '86 Model 6 go a few years ago. I love the white charvels even when they yellow a bit. Mine was Burgundy Mist. Seeing yours makes me wanna cry.

                            Re: Model 6 Arrived Today

Hey, frankencat, I'm in Naples, remember? So I got it, but I'm putting up the shutters today instead of getting to play it. Hope yours arrives before we lose power.

But I did find it's weakness, and this goes to your question, Travis. It sounds like ass.

I pulled the cavity cover last night to take a peek, and saw that when he had the Fred installed and the active removed, he had the three pots wired to be volume controls for each pup. And I didn't check the values of the pots, but now that I've plugged her in, they ain't right: the pots go straight from off to wide open, with nothing between.

And all three are muddy as hell.

Which is interesting, 'cause that is why he said he had the active removed: said it made it muddy. Now I'm wondering if the mud was just some incorrect or poor wiring.

I'm not worried about it, I planned on pulling the Fred anyway and either putting the originial back in or a J90C (happen to have one right here) in. And I want to put the circuit back in.

OK, gotta go figure out these shutters.

                              Re: Model 6 Arrived Today

Are the original pots still in there? They should be 25K pots, and not suited for use with passive pickups/circuits. Also, the original volume pot would have been connected directly to the circuit board, and based on the pic, it looks like its been removed. Depending on the damage that caused, you may not be able to get it working again.

Another note, the J-200 pickups (single coils) were designed with the active circuit and sound like crap without it.

I would check the pots first, and make sure you get a 500K on the Fred. That's a stopgap measure until you decide if you want to replace the circuit or replace the single coils.
