Re: Model 6 Arrived Today

    Cool as hell!

    The only thing that keeps me away form the Model 6 is the JT6, i don't like it. I prefer the 650Xl with the Schaller.

      Actually, they originally came with this configuration:

      volume=50k
      tone=250k
      mid-boost=50k

      and the J200 pickups are actually stacked humbuckers in a single coil package. Just wanted to clear that up for you

      Looks great Keith!!

        Thanks, Dave.

        Yeah, I've actually got a j200 in the neck of a parts mut, with no active circuit, and love it.

        No chance to check the pot values today, too busy putting up the shutters. Damn heat index is 104. Oh well, tomorrow I'll be happy that I fooled with them.

            And here I was taking Jackson's word for it - stupid me!

            http://www.jacksonmuseum.com/archive...nualpage6R.jpg

            They recommend not using the 200 without an active circuit. I would still imagine they 50K pots would not sound as good as proper 500K pots.

You have to try things for yourself, and if they sound good, use them! As for the 50k pots, you should only use those with the active circuit board. I wouldn't use them for passive humbuckers....but again, that's just my opinion

                I agree - "crap" was too strong a word, especially considering that I've never played a J-200 without an active circuit of some sort!

                  Re: Model 6 Arrived Today

                  I did forget to mention that the mutt I have a J200 in (neck) with no actives is actually named the Crapocaster, and for good reason! It is a POS worthy of my style... lotus body, ESPee neck, J200 in neck and J90 at bridge...

                  Heh heh... I said, "Crapocaster."

                  I'll check the model 6 pots later, by candlelight if I have to (I won't - I think I'll have power until dawn or so. God bless FPL: it only rains a million inches a year here, and every time we get a little shower, the power goes out for an hour or so. I just imagine some guy in a control room somewhere going, "RAIN!? Who would have guessed THAT would happen!? HERE of all places, the JUNGLE!")

                  I'll check the values. I think they are replacement pots, because they are big suckers, not the little ones like would have been soldered to that board, but who knows what values. The wiring was pretty, it wasn't a hack job.

                  Hey, Model 6 owners - which way are your toggles oriented? To turn on / off away / toward the knobs, or parallel to the bottom edge of the guitar? (Well, 'bottom' if you're playing it.) These switch side to side, and up and down makes more sense to me.

                  WHAT AM I DOING? I have acorns to store before the storm!

                  Sheesh...

Me personally, I would set them up at an angle (sort of like a 5 way switch direction is "usually" installed.

                      I keep on as the down position. Although I can't remember it actually happening, I guess if up is the on position, you could accidentally flick it to off in mid-strum.

                        Hey Keith i'm here Miami it looks like we are going to just get some really heavy winds & alot of rain. Good Luck you guys.
                        As for the Model 6 switchs I did what Dave did left them on a angle so my pinky could flick them off/on easier.

                          Yes, THAT is how they are, like a 5 or 3 way would be installed. Man, you'd think I get paid by the word: you said that so much better than I did...

                              In playing position, I have the switch in the "down" position as on, which is how they were stock, I believe.

                              I do have a Model 4 where I have the 1st switch replaced with an on/on switch and it's parallel to the strings compared to the stock ones. I have it set up so the neck pickup is on when the switch is flipped toward the headstock and the bridge is on when it's flipped toward the bridge. Having the switch parallel to the strings is more in-line with your hand-sweep than up/down, IMO. Also the on/on switch makes it easier to switch pickup configurations during a mid-song change which is my biggest beef with individual on/off toggles for each pickup.

                                Hey Keith, shutters are up here. Had to take my bikes (Harleys) over the the local HD dealer since I don't have a permanent shelter for them (yet). Just a few things to pick up and tie down in the yard and we're set here. Didn't get the guitar today. The schmu..err...guy sent it USPS and I have no wayt to track it. Mail delivery is suspended tomorrow so maybe Saturday. Have to make it past tomorrow though. Looks like it could be pretty bad. We are under a mandatory evacuation but we're staying here. I don't want to leave my 3 dogs here alone. Hopefully we wont get too much flooding but we are in a pretty low area - 14 ft above sea level. Anyway, remember us in your prayers and we'll do likewise. I have a set of Duncans all set to go when she gets here and am thinking of some BL's. Rock on!
