  • Jt6 to Floyd swap

I know this was covered many a time on the old board, but can someone refresh my memory as to what's involved in swapping out the JT6 style trem on model 2's to a OFR? Thanks!

The OFR drops right in using the same posts as the JT-6. Nothing to it.

I noticed, with my Mod6 at least, that the string spacing is slightly different, so your strings might be closer to the edge of the fretboard

I did it on a Model 4 and it came out fine. Just make sure the Floyd has the 42mm sustain block.

I know it works most times, but I have now encountered two guitars I couldn't do the swap in. Both were 1988 Soloists. The stud spacing was just a hair off from the Floyd making the Floyd hang up in its travel, especially upward movement.

Mine had a hangup problem also. It turned out to be the part on the underside of the trem that accepts the bar was larger than the one on the JT-6 and was rubbing against the route. I just removed enough material to allow it to move freely.

I also replaced the JT-6 on my Jackson Dinky with no problems at all.

I noticed that rub as well. On my red Soloist I took a little of the wood down, it still was sticking and was in the stud spacing. I didn't want to take the wood down on the archtop, so i left the JT6 in. I have had a couple of other guitars that swapped smoothly though, so it is worth trying.

You gotta make sure the block is long enough otherwise the springs will rub on the wood. Here's mine.

I have done a model6& model 2 no problems at all dropped right in.I put one in my fusion H-H and again dropped right in.The fusion had the JT580 LP but the standard floyd works with no problems.
