• Let the modifying begin!

OK guys, time to mess with the Model 6. It sounds ok with the stock pickups but I have a brand new set of Duncans here and some new pots and went about re-wiring this evening and have a question: What do you guys do when you swap the stacjked Jackson single-coil pups for something like Duncans? The routs are so deep that the stock screws are not long enough to get the pickups at the tright height. Plus, I have to add a ton of foam under the pickup to fill the rout and lift the pup up. How do you all deal with this? I am thinking the first step is to go to the hardware store and try to find longer screws, hehe. Let's hear what some other folks are doing.

Frank, are you going to remove the JE-1200 circuit? I'm in the process of rebuilding my Mod6 and not sure whether to leave the boost in or take out and put in some Duncans. Thanks...

If you take the active circut out try to keep it complete (all the pots)and as much of the wiring you can.It really helps to have everything if you want to sell it later on.
If you go with Duncans get an r&s guitarworks pot kit you wont be sorry just tell them what application you need and they will fix you up.Their pot kits are legendary on the Les Paul forum I have a 50s kit in my 83 L.P.studio.I have kit waiting to go in a dinky project. All vol&tone are 500k+.
(cts).High quality caps too.
Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I'm gonna hang on to the JE-1200 for now. I really like the sound of the stock setup, just want to see what the Duncans sound like in there. Got them in this morning and they sound...like Duncans. I installed SSL6-SSL-6-Custom. sounds pretty good but I think I like the stock sound better. Maybe I will put the JE-1200 back in with the Duncans and see how that sounds. I think I want stacks in this guitar - maybe some Classic Stacks or Vintage Rails or something. I think the Classic Stacks would kick with the JE-1200 and I know the Custom will scream. Kind of like the SD version of the stock setup. Hmmm...

Yes, longer screws are needed. I found that Allparts bass pickup screws are long enough to have the pickup at an adequate height, which is essentially a longer wood screw. I'll also use springs like on regular pickups with rings to keep the pickup up instead of the foam thing.

Cool. I got it worked out. I put the JE-1200 electronics back in with the Duncans and it sounds better but I think the stock pickups sound better. Oh well, I'm gonna leave it alone for now.

Personally, I left the circuit on my 650 with the Duncans and I think the thing completely rips. Also, I think the Vintage Rails are sweet pickups. I would try those.

I ripped them out, the original PU's and midbooster that is, and replaced them by duncans and DiMarzio's. I don't like singles so I put a lil screaming demon in the neck, but it does not justify its name, it does not scream, it sings, terrific!

you should try an APC persauder lead or lead custom in the bridge, and a persuader lead stacked SC in the neck and maybe a 200 in the midle, i have a discription saved somewhere. you'll never hear a better set up pups

If you don't have long springs you can use rubber aquarium tubing cut to length, and slip it over the new screws. It makes a killer spring in a pinch.

OK, I think I have settled on the Duncans without the preamp. Plus, I got a 42mm block for my Floyd and installed that. This guitar is SWEET!!!
