  • Charvel Model 1A (strat copy) PICKGUARD

    Really simple:

Will a fender pickguard fit on a Charvel Model 1A?

I think I may get one, there is one at my local shop, and I have the cash. I was planning on getting some DiMarzios into it.

Also, what is the routing of the body? Is it deep enough for Humbuckers?

ALSO, Is it a good buy for $200? Is it a good guitar?

    Thanks.

Depending on which Strat pickguard you're looking at, there are 8 hole pickguards and 11 hole pickguards. The routing is a deep pool route which, yes will fit humbuckers. $200 is on the higher end of the spectrum, but not a bad price if it's mint. I wouldn't want to pay that much for a guitar that I'm going to modify though.

      Ok thanks

well, I can drill new holes if I have to, I just want to know will it fit between the neck and the bridge, and wont hang off the edge.

$200 too much for a project guitar? thats pretty much bottom of the bucket price as far as guitars go, at least the ones with decent necks and bodies, bridges and tuners.

I paid $125 for my Model 1A a few months ago - They're low on the market now, I wouldn't buy at $200.

The standard Fender 8 hole guard fits the guitar correctly, but the screw hole will be off on 4 screws - so be prepared to fill and drill.

The pickup route is shallow - it is not deep enough for humbuckers with long legs or the regular sized mounting screws. Fear not - most Duncans have short legs, and you can cut down the screws to fit with a jeweler's saw or a big pair of wire cutters.

Alternatively, you can have the cavity routed out deeper along the sides to allow the legs and screws to fit.

So a Fender pickguard works? Excellent. Dont mind drilling, its a $200 guitar

I've worked on a Strat and strat copy before, installing humbuckers. The screw is always a problem. I just wanted to know if the routing was deep enought for the humbucker.

I tried hack sawing the screws before (not easy), and its not the best way to go. The pickup would fall off the end of the screw all the time, and was very annoying.

On the copy, I just got a drill slightly smaller than 1cm wide, and made a two 1.5 cm holes on each side of the humbucker for the screws to fall into.

Thanks for the help. What are your thoughts on the 1A?
I guess a mounting ring is an option, but i dont want to spend any more money than I need to.
