  • Charvel chainsaw cases

Ok probably a dumb question, but anyone know if there is a way to find the old chainsaw cases? I know ebay sometimes has them, but is there a way just to buy one?

And PS, if any of you have any laying around PM me and I'll make it worth you while.

    Thanks

you can't buy those anymore, but this is probably the best place to find one if you don't want to go on ebay. Just beware, they are highly prized and most won't let them go unless the price is right. I happen to have a black one with all working latches for my Mod 4, but I wouldn't consider selling it unless someone offered an outrageous amount for it. Plus they are a pain in the rear to ship.

The chainsaw cases are form fitting and therefore Model specific. Like the ones designed for Model 5's and 6's won't fit the bolt-on Models 1-4 because they're too big. Vice versa might work though, but can't be sure.

Model series are strat shaped, 5s and 6s are dinky shaped. The 5 and 6 cases are for neckthru and bolt ons won't fit.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

          I believe that CMC 100 was for the Models 1, 1a, 2, 3, 3a, and 4, CMC 110 was for the Model 5 and 6, and CMC 200 was for the basses, the 1B, 2B, and 3B.

Two questions: Why are they so prized, and what is the going rate for one in excellent condition?

I always thought chainsaw cases were really cool. Just the name - chainsaw case - sounds like if you have one of those, you mean business.

In all seriousness, they are getting rarer and rarer as the latches were highly prone to breakage so there are fewer and fewer of them all the time. Keep in mind they were not used for all Charvel import models either, as some came with tweed cases. When I picked up my Model 4 (a guitar I had coveted for years and years before actually getting my paws on one) I just had to have a chainsaw case to go with it. I got mine on Ebay for $65 in mint condition.

you could get an SKB case or a new Jackson one to fit them and would only cost a few dollars more than an original one. Plus they would have all the latches, and that cool new case smell.
