    I noticed this ebay auction

    I really like the looks of that, and I think Im going to build one myself. Strip it down to the wood, get gold hardware, ect.

    But look at the back of that gutiar. What causes that grey color?

    it is some leftover finish that he didn't bother sanding off-most likely some sort of sealer coat to make a smooth finish over the wood grain.

      Looks like primer paint. The seller mentioned he didnt\'t sand down to bare wood on the back. Most guitars are given a dark primer before final topcoats to get rid of any bleed thru of the woodstreaks. Looks pretty cool with the maple neck!
