How is the quality on the model 5´s?

How good is the quality on those compared to new imports and USA jacksons?
How well does the kahler on the early ones hold tune compared to a floyd, and also: is the stock pickups decent?
I found one with the kahler for about 600$, is it to much? dont forget that i live in sweden, so just about everything is expensive compared to in the states...

I prefer the Model Series from 1986, which are the ones with the Kahlers. The 5 is a really great guitar and I wish it was as good as the 6, but it isnt. I really wish it was because I love double hums, but the lack of binding leaves me wanting to play the 6. With alot of distortion flipping between those huge humbuckers doesnt affect tone much as it does on the 6. So, while the pickups are good, the tonal variety is better on the 6. 5s go for around $300 - $350US here, so in Sweeden it might be the market value. If you like guitars with no binding, then grab it, its a great guitar...........

The quality on the model series Charvels would be in between the new imports and US Jacksons in my opinion. They were extremely well made and are a great bang for he buck. I have no experience with Kahlers so I can't comment there. $600 is a little expensive over here, they would go for around $300-$400 depending on condition. But then again, I have no frame of reference for comparing costs in Sweden.

As far as the stock pickups, some love them some hate them. I much prefer swapping out the stock pickups for some good Duncans.

I have an 87 model 5 (JT6 trem) and it's one of my (if not my) favorite guitar(s).
Of course, the fact that it appears to have maple wings may have something to do with that.
I like the factory J80 pickups with the JE1000 preamp.
They aren't too hot, but I think they are a good all around pickup set.
Some guitars might look a little nicer with binding and shark fin inlays, but IMO they don't play any better.

I've seen enough poplar to know it when I see it.
The wings are damn near as white as the guitar itself (Pearl White).
IMO, it ain't poplar...
