USD$300 seems like a fair deal given the apparent "rarity" of crackle Model 6s but I presume the future-owner would want to replace that single-locking trem with something double-locking, which would add maybe another hundred or two to the price.

Yep. That was an insanely great price. Easily a 700 buck or probably more guitar due to the color especially if someone replaces the single locker. I would have hit that like a baby seal if I could have.

Yes, it was $300 on the marketplace. I don't belong to any groups to know who said what when, and I only recently started using marketplace as I loathe facebook. And, honestly, when the new UI becomes mandatory, I won't be using it for some time (it currently lacks features).
And considering that I had just sold 2 for much much more - Yes, $300 would be a good buy. But, to point out, $300 was more than I paid for the two I sold. Because of my travels, I can often schedule trips through small towns where you find great deals if you are willing to put in the work.

I found a ... not sure if it was a Legend 7 because it did not have a matching headstock. But it was a "Model 7" with toothpaste logo.
Well, he had it listed for $595, which I think is a fair price. But he had it listed as a US Charvel. So, I thought I would try to get it lower because it was an import. I mean, if a USA is $600, an import should be less, right?
He said no (which I expected). He said he was offered $500. I tried to guilt him by saying "as long as that guy knows it is not American, and isn't simply taking your word for it."

The next morning, about 45 minutes after he opened my 'guilt trip' message (the one thing I like about facebook is that you can tell when someone opens your messages), he dropped the price to $355 and changed the listing to say "Charvel Fort Worth", removing the "made in" and the USA.

I wrote back saying that I liked the wording of the ad much better, and thought the price was fair. I offered to buy it and he flat out rejected me.
He sold it the next day.
So, the way I see it, I saved someone money.




*And just to repeat myself - I don't care that I didn't get the Model 6 (but it would have been nice). I want to know how it went from "I am to busy to meet" to "it's sold".

WOW you saved someone's ass on the Tele as it was really worth his original asking price. That sucks that he wouldn't sell it to you. I assume he didn't want to ship it?

I understand putting in the legwork and looking non stop. I sold a Peavey Destiny Custom recently that I had $275.00 in. Found it in a pawn shop and it needed a few things but nothing hard to find or fix.

I understand your feelings with the Model 6 seller. I'm on of those who has the cash in hand and you're right that's the person I want to deal with. I figure he was getting so many insane offers he didn't know what to do and/or was just letting a bidding war go on. I'm sure the seller was getting hammered as soon as they listed it.

I'm like you I'm not a big Facebook fan but the Pro Mod I recently purchased came from the FB marketplace. He had it listed elsewhere but we did all our communication through Facebook. I'm amazed at how many people absolutely do not want to ship to someone though even if that someone is ready to send them the shipping label.

It wasn't a shipping issue for the Tele. He mentioned in his ad that the price did not include shipping and I was upfront in my original message - this would be cash and in person. I assume he didn't want to sell it to me because I made him feel bad - he bought a USA guitar. he tried to sell a USA guitar. But it was an import - He shot the messenger.


I will always try an in person meeting. I would rather drive for hours, not like a guitar, and not buy it. Far easier than buying it, waiting for delivery, finding out it was damaged, and trying to return it for a refund.

I am a CL user. Cash. Gear. Done. And it is anonymous - not giving up my credit card, home address, phone number, or even my name.
But it seems to have been dying a slow death, with (I assume) Facebook being the death nail. In 2012, there were 1500-2000 gear ads in my home region. 500-600 before FB. Before CoVid (the unemployment rate), it was under 200 ads, but has since increased to have a 3rd page (240 or more).

When your place of business is 10 hours away from home and you stay on location for weeks at a time, I had the ability to plan gear runs. Opening a CL region is far easier than the Facebook zip code and distance plan.

Pictures looked new to me. I don't think he'll get the grand he's asking for it with the crappy trem on it but at least he changed the mismatched tone knob too and added a Jackson pickup cover to it. I figure it's an 800 buck guitar myself. I know the lava crackles bring more but that trem and the added string tree is gonna bring it down IMHO.
