MIJ San Dimas...upgrade trem?

So...is it worth it to get an OFR, Shaller, Gotoh, etc. to replace the stock Floyd on the 2011 San Dimas?

Don't they come with Floyd 1000 series? If see no need to upgrade until it's worn out myself. No way in hell I'll ever wear mine out. I have Schallers, OFR's, JT6's and Floyd 1000's and I like them all myself.

Only part I would upgrade is the trem bar and socket, I dislike the looseness. I feel the trem itself is on par with higher end units. But I also like the Jackson branded trems from the model series.

I'll +1 the 1000-series bar/socket loosie-goosie potential, but it depends on the specimen. I've had some stay tight and some others which would go loose if you look at them funny. but replacing that component is a much cheaper solution than replacing the whole bridge, which is not worth it unless there's a specific reason to.

I have an OFR and big block on mine, but I built it up from parts starting with the flamey neck. Still cost $750 to put it together years ago, and that's without the case.

I found a Schaller in a pawn shop for $170(AUD) new. Much nicer everything, tuning screws are so nice and allows for very fine movements ,the bar fits snug and really easy to tension and is amazing. its a work of art. The 1000 that was on it done the job and stayed in tune but its just a really nice upgrade to do. I also added a bigger brass sustain block. I probably could have left on what schaller supplied. I'm very happy with upgrade.

Your Japanese San Dimas would have had the Floyd Rose 1000 tremolo, which (according to the Floyd Rose company) is identical in every respect (materials and dimensions) to the Original Floyd Rose, except the 1000 Series is made in Asia rather than by the German Schaller company.

I believe it for the most part, except the above posters noted the less-than-ideal trem arm socket on the 1000 Series. Other users have reported that the fine tuners on the 1000 Series are less smooth than the Original Floyd Rose. I've owned two Charvel So-Cals (2008 USA and 2011 Japan) with the Floyd Rose 1000 and I attest that the claims about the socket and fine tuners are true, at least on my guitars.

Upgrading your JT6 to an Original Floyd Rose on your 1988 Model 6 would be a far greater upgrade. Did anyone ever confirm that the JT6 was essentially a trem made of pot metal? Because if that's true, and I wouldn't doubt it, then installing a trem that is entirely solid steel with a stock brass block (such as the Original Floyd Rose) is a tremendous upgrade.

In summary: An OFR on your San Dimas is an incremental upgrade, and an OFR on your Model 6 is an immense upgrade.
