Re: Chrrvel 5A question

Nice guitar Dave, but I'm really impressed with your lawn. How long did it take you get half your lawn to grow weeds and the other half grass?

Actually it's a special blend of hybrid grasses that give you that "field of greens" look to the backyard.

Ok, really, we had a "kiddie" pool there and the lawn went bye-bye.

By the way funny-boy, any chance of you getting that Model 7 neck just went out the window......

            Re: Chrrvel 5A question

Jacksonmuseum.com has the '88 Pricelist scans. The 5A is on this page, blue one, top left. A little hard to read, but I think says $899.95. As far as a good price for a nice one now, eBay auctions on the neckthroughs don't seem to end below $400 much these days unless the guitar has issues or is Burgundy Mist. You might score one for under $400 from a bro or if you got lucky at a pawn shop or music store.

              Re: Chrrvel 5A question

I would say a good price would be $300-$350, any more and it would have to be immaculate.

You should PM YetAnotherOne. I believe he still has one that he might be willing to sell. Purple metal flake finish.

That would be Black Cherry. I believe I sold him that one last year. I thought he sold it, but maybe he's still got it.

Thanks for giving Roy a head's up on this. I do indeed still have the (in)famous black cherry 5A though it's now on hold for Roy. He's maybe the 5th JCFr that I've held it for ....

But I'll be the one who buys it this time. I've looked for one since 1988, and I'm really looking forward to getting one after all this time .

                        Re: Chrrvel 5A question

That is definitely a love it or hate it color. Some of the cleanest Model Series guitars I've seen on eBay recently have been Burgundy Mist. Sometimes I wonder if most of them have been case-bound since the grunge era. I almost pulled the trigger on a near-mint BM Jackson Strat with a low BIN a couple of months ago, but I just couldn't do it, & as a matter of fact no one bid on it. I think if you've got killer chops, you can pull off the pink colors. I don't think I have Burgundy Mist chops yet, but I'm working on it.

Good times! That was a sweet guitar. I got it from our very own Doc Dryer (where's he been lately?). I traded him an '87 black cherry Model 6 for the '88 black cherry Model 5A because I was jonesing for a one-humbucker guitar at the time. After awhile, I missed the neck pickup and just wanted something else. The only thing I did was change the pup to a DiMarzio X2N and added a push/pull pot to split the coils for single coil sounds. I then put the J95 back in and left the push/pull, so I guess it's still in there and working.

I hear you, I originally picked up the 5A because I was jonesing for a one-hum guitar as well. But at around the same time or not too long after I got it I also acquired: a one-hum Soloist, a Roswell, a one-hum JJ, a one-hum Dinky, and most recently a one-hum JJP (GAS can be an ugly, ugly disease). The 5A smokes but it's expendable now as all of the ones that came after it are killer guitars as well.

And yeah, the push/pull pot, J-95, & collared Floyd arm mod are still intact and working fine!

Cool. I got my JJP last year from Kennslp. That's the only one-hum guitar I need now... it's just got amazing tone. And GAS is definitely ugly! I've almost got it under control, though.

I picked up the JJP that Jerry From Ghana just let go. Sadly it's been sitting at the end of the couch for a couple of weeks and I've not had much time to spend with it. In the little time I have spent with it though it strikes me as a great axe and probably one of the better deals out there in USA-made guitars (certainly one of the better deals in the USA Jackson area).
