First post here - DK24 neck vs SoCal Neck

Hello everyone, I am new here. Maybe this question has been asked before but I wanted to just post for the first time.

I have an MIM Charvel SoCal 2014 which I love. It is almost perfect for me, it would be if the string spacing was a bit closer (like my MIM Strat) and if the heel had a cut or contour but other than that it is fantastic.

Now I am saving to buy a new guitar and I think it is time for me to buy my first ever 24 fret guitar and my first choice is a DK24 series (I still need to decide which bridge).

Does anybody have both? How different/similar are the necks? Spec wise nut width and radius is the same but that usually does not tell the whole story.

Without owning either, I would guess that they should be very different.
My 2013 San Dimas has a Classic San Dimas neck profile.
My 2016 San Dimas has the Jackson Speed Neck.

Also, my 2013 was... I don't know the proper term... but the neck wasn't the natural wood feel of my 2016. There was a coating of... something. I won't say it was a clear coat. But definitely some kind of sealer.


And, as it applies to you -
I am pretty sure the neck was changed in 2016. Which means your 2014 should be like my 2013, and the 2021 should be like the 2016 - plus the differences of the caramelized birds eye and extra frets and all the other unit specific options.

Thanks, but can you please elaborate? Do you mean the DK24 has the Jackson Speed neck? And how would you describe its differences against the Classic San Dimas neck?

Yes, the DK24 has the speed neck.
Honestly, I prefer my 2016 over the 2013. The 2013 was thicker. A different shape. And, as mentioned, it was coated with something.
Also, the spoke wheel truss rod - not only is it an improvement over the headstock cavity truss rod we usually see on guitars, but the 2013 required the neck to be removed to make adjustments.
