• Model 3A?

It's supposedly a Charvel '85 model. Eventhough I thought model 3's had a pickguard, and not this added single coil in the middle...

I'm pretty clueless asto what it is though....
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Looks like a Model 3 with a hum in the neck instead of a single. They did a great job though. That guitar looks immaculate, very nice

I would guess the year as an '87.

You figure it'd be worth around $350 to $400? I have the opportunity to buy it.

I'd actually say that it's a Model 3A with an added single in the middle. Note the lip on the single-coil pickup and the route. Definitely not stock. Whether the humbuckers are stock, that's another story.

As far as the year, it's definitely between 87 and 88.

I don't believe the neck humbucker is stock as they used the oversized rings back then. If you look at the bridge humbucker ring, that is definitely one of the oversized rings so it should be on the neck side also if it were to be an original. Nice guitar though.

              I'd buy that for $1.

                  Re: Model 3A?

that's not the single coil rout of the model 3 either. this might have started life as a model 2

model 3 single routs were EMG style and didn't have the bottom flare or whatever you want to call it.

                      Re: Model 3A?

I was thinking this was a heavily modded model 2. The lip on the single coil. Plus the lack of paint in the single slot and the neck pickup slot. Looks like a good clean job, very nice one of.

                        Re: Model 3A?

I was leaning away from it being a modified model 2. The tone and volume controls are in the correct place. Not that whoever added the single coil couldn't put them there, but why put all that bodywork into a model 2 when you could get away witht he minimal work you'd put into a Model 3A?

                          Re: Model 3A?

Personally I think it's the neck hum that got switched in later, because of the ring and if you look at the first pic you can see the appearance of the neck hum is 'lighter' and more of a brown colour than the 'black' colour of the other two. It's not scientific, but a good clue I think.

i could just me a model 3 that was routed for a hum up top and routed for a lipped single coil

that would make the most logical sense to me anyway.

The neck humbucker appears to be a Humbucker From Hell judging from the pole pieces. The bridge could be a stock Jackson, but its hard to tell.
