The 1986 Model 1 was a little different that the rest. It came with a J-90 (not C) that was open coil (no cover). You can see the details of the 86 Charvels at http://www.jacksonmuseum.com/archive...sacharvel.html
So is the j90c a good pickup? I have a Dimarzio PAF PRO lying around, would it be a better choice? Reason I'm asking is I won a Model One and am waiting for it to get here. Yes I will be posting pics as soon as it arrives!!!
I've got them in my Model 2s. I'm not sure if they're just old and losing their lustre, but I'm replacing them with Seymour Duncan Distortions because they just don't have enough OOMPH for me.
I like a J90C. It got plenty of output (it's one of the hottest pups you can find), and it doesn't have that "blistering" high end that a SD JB has (and I like a JB). The highs are much smoother on the J90C.
I wish I could combine the mid range of the SD JB with the smooth high end of the J90C.
you aought to atleast try poping the covers off and using alcohol to get any gule on there, and see what you thing before you go through a pickup swap.
