  • Dating a model 6

    Hi guys, searched everywhere for the last hour or so, but i cant find anywhere on the net that explains how to date my new model 6 i just picked up. Sweet sweet guitar, mint condition, and got it for a song, but how old is it???
    I'll rip her apart today and look for numbers/codes/initials that might help, as there are no serial numbers.

    The serial number should be on the 24th fret. The first number tells you what year it was manufactured.

    7xxxxxx = '87

          sorry fellas, found the serial number on it today. Should have looked in the standard jackson serial number possy. Starts with an 8, so i guess its an 88. It has a jackson trem, kindof a textured finish to it, with the fine tuners at the very rear, and removable hardened inserts for the knife edges.
          Active pickups and mid boost (or whatever, its all standard) dont sound so good, well, not as good as my other guitars. Might be time to change them out i think.

              They may not be easy, but they're often damn cheap!

              Perry, some people like the sound better when they remove the cover from the bridge pickup.
              I'm not sure you can do that for the other pickups though, something tells me I've heard you can't. The bridge PU cover is held on by a little glue that's easy to remove, I've heard. I kept mine stock because I just like to do that, but you might try it before you do a pickup change. I can see the cover muffling a lot of sound.

                My 650xl has a Distortion/Cool Rails/Hot Rails combo in it that sounds absolutely killer. I just turn the active boost knob all the way off and I get some sweet tones, ranging from metal crunch to all out shred leads, with a little bit of classic rock and bluesy cleans rolled into one.

                  I'll do that Lerx, as it is being borrowed by and old time charvel player (now regrettably endorsed by ibanez) for a reunion gig this weekend.

                    You better make sure you know how old that Model is before you date it!! You can get in trouble for that kind of stuff.
