You've got some very nice gradients in there where the colors meet. Great glossy look, too.

I'll give it a 9.4!

Very Nice, Jimmy.... I wish I could paint like that.... But alas, my artistic talents ends with me playing the radio.

Looks good. A pic with glare from the lights is the true test for the clear coat. Judging from the reflection of the bridge on the body, it looks great!

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks guys!! I think I went overboard with the clear - I used 10 coats. The most difficult part was blending in the oranges and yellows, that was a major p.i.t.a.

I agree with the buffing comment - I loved using that buffing wheel, the way it vibrated against my...

I ordered a bunch of stuff from warmoth so when it arrives I'm going to try something else. Suggestions?

BTW - I saw the graphic on a Wayne guitar and modified it just a bit for the Dinky body.

Suggestions?

You could paint it yellow, with a black flame coming over it.

I think that would look cool (dont laugh).

Jimmy, did you use an airbrush for the color change? I'm going to try my "not so steady" hand at it in the future.

budman, the airbrush was the only way for me to get close to what I was looking for and it was pretty tricky. I wasn't sure I could make it look good, but the guy guiding me along was a great help and gave me tons of advice and confidence. He'd come in and check on me periodically and give praise or call me a dikhead.

I've seen your work Dave and I'm sure something like this would be no sweat for you. Good luck.

Cool, I was looking forward to the pics of this one! You did a killer job. It's hard to believe it's your first one! You didn't happen to take any shots of the masking steps, did you? I'd love to see that. I'll be polishing my first poly finish soon, so I've been reading quite a bit on the steps & materials. One of the best links I've come accross is this one at projectguitar. I've seen some of this guy's work on guitars & RC vehicles & it's pretty impressive.

Y'know I had already begun taping in the flames when I thought about photographing the whole process. For my warmoth project I will do that for sure.

Damn, the holy grail of the "model" series and you had to go and paint over it!
J/K bro, looks good!
