Re: pickup j-90

thought I would update my post... I just received an '85 rhoads string through and as expected it has a J80 in the bridge and a J50 in the neck...

My 86 Charvel model 3A had J80s in both the bridge and neck positions.

jacksons literature stated the J80 was designed more for light or small bodied guitars....

I read the same thing. That must be why they put one in the 750XL

Like he said the have the reg pole pieces. The 94 and 95 DR 5s I've had in the past had the J-80 and the dual rail pickups screwed directly to the body this 93 DR5 has pickup rings and the square base plate shaller trem.Mine are trem spaced as well as were most if not all mid 90s Jackson pickups.IMO the Jackson pickups are solid and sound great.
Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I wonder 1 thing. How is it possible that my model 6 loaded with a J50BC sounds like crap with that midboost thing (thin, no balles what so ever) and now I have that same PU in the neck position of a 750xl and is amazing? high output, rather dark sounding etc. I was stunned when I heared how well it sounded.

I think that one is the J-85. My Jackson Professional Fusion had it

I remember the J-50B sounding like crap in a Model 4 from 1985-1986, even with the midboost. I can't imagine it sounding good in the neck either, but I have been wrong many, many times.

that is exactly what I wondered. I think the midbooster is the problem, that influenced the sound tremendously. besides that I used audiospeakercable, so that I would have as little signalloss as possible and it sounds warm, full and fat. in my model 6 with the same wiring it sounded like SHIT, but this is cool
