• Toothpaste Charvel Questions

My Son aquired a Used Charvel at a Pawn Shop for $79.95
It is green Metal flake and has the matching headstock color
It has one humbucker and two single coils, The Humbucker is a JB Duncan and the middle pickup is marked Jackson Neck is a matching black SC with no logo.
It has an Original Floyd Rose Tremolo that is Chrome and the rest of the hardware is black
It has a 25 1/2" scale I think it's a Dinky?
Has Dots for fret markers and a rosewood fingerboard
It also has a Jackson active mid Boost system that takes a 9volt battery , One of the tone knobs controls the Boost, It has three knobs total a 5 way switch and a mini switch for the mid boost circuit.
I told the Boy that the JB was worth $80
I strung it up for him with .009"-.042"s and the action is low and sweet.
It's a Fort Worth TX with a serial # of 329311
Can anyone tell me what this guitar is..
I'll get some pics soon..
This is my first post..
I have another Pawn Shop Charvel Bass coming for Christmas that was $90..
I'm not new to guitars, I have a Gibson Blueshawk, A black Peavey Wolfgang Special Flametop USA, Two Squier Strats, Epiphone Les Paul Mini and a few other acoustics etc.
I have had around 10 Charvels or Jacksons in my time my favorite being a Fusion with the 24 3/4" scale.
I've been playing for over twenty five years..
Thanks B92 Note My Avatar is of My H&K P7M8 Not a Beretta

Re: Toothpaste Charvel Questions

I think your son's guitar is a 375, built from 89-91. It would have come with a Jackson licensed Floyd, so the OFR has been added too.

Sounds like you got a helluva deal there.

Pics are required, of course
Hail yesterday

It sounds like the trem has been swapped out. 'G' called it, 375 is a logical guess based upon what you posted.
You got a couple great deals. but ya probably knew that already..

Re: Toothpaste Charvel Questions

If it has the active boost, then it's a 475, not a 375. Those are killer guitars and for $80, with those mods, you made out like a bandit.

The JB sells new for about $69, but with the OFR selling for around $120 new, you could part it out and make a tudy profit. However, I would suggest hanging onto the thing for quite a while. You got a kille rdeal on a killer axe. Congrats and I'll be awaiting those pics.

By the way, welcome.

I have to agree more with Travis, but the paintjob sounds aftermarket.

I've never seen a 475 with dots but the electronics and layout are a matchup with a 475 body. The 375 has a Vol/Tone

He says the headstock matches though. Would someone bother to relogo a Charvel import after repainting it?

I think I've seen one in metallic green before.

Budman has a dark metallic green 750. Factory paint, but I don't think it was ever listed as one of the available colors, so just about anything is possible. Interesting that this one has dots instead of sharkies, though. Would almost guarantee that it's a refin, because there's about 0 chance that someone found a replacement neck with matching paint in that color. If it's large metal flake rather than the finer metallic, I'm thinking refin for sure.

Re: Toothpaste Charvel Questions

Wasn't the Fusion Custom available in regular metallic colors as well as a couple large metalflakes (including a dark green)? It had a matching headstock, too. No midboost cicuit, though. Oh, he said 25.5" scale, too, so that would rule that out.

The three knobs make me think 475, but it used the JE-1200, which didn't have a mini-toggle, and it had sharks. The Spectrum used the JE-1500, which did have the mini-toggle. Maybe it's a modded Spectrum? That would make the dots + 25.5" scale + matching headstock work (though I've never seen one in green metalflake), and I guess if someone was willing to rout it for a bridge hum, they wouldn't have a problem with tapping it for an extra pot. Whatever it is, I'm sure there were some mods done. Either way, sounds like a great guitar for $80.00

Spectrum does have the reverse headstock on the 22 fret neck, the 5 way and the mini toggle, the matching headstock in metalflake... but, it only has a Volume,Tone. The mini toggle takes up the middle hole and is between the two pots.

Well First off guys it is an original paintjob I believe it's dark green with gold flake.
The Mid Boost Circuit I believe was added aftermarket but is a jackson preamp, The cavity is expertly coated with the foil tape etc. Very Nice.
Here's some Pics..

Dude, you got all that PLUS the Charvel/Jackson hardshell case for $80? Was the pawn shop going out of business or did you haggle him down to that price? Last time I saw a guitar for $80 in a pawn shop was like a Memphis Strat missing knobs and switch tip and there was no middle or neck pickup, with stickers all over that B*tch

Well the case is crap all the hinges are junk, I saw a 3 Foot long hinge at Home Depot that I believe will fix it for good..
But Yeah a great price at the pawn is the Stuff..
I bought a Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty at Cash America Pawn for $500..Same one the $90 Charvel Bass is coming from..
It is White/Cream and has the P/J pickups bolt on neck 4 string Charvel Bass with the Guitar Shaped Charvel logo
And Yeah the case strap picks etc etc came with the Guitar and it was marked $79.95 he didn't chew em down that was the price, But it was unplayable being the prior owner put .013"s on it and 5 trem springs and the floyd was at a upwards angle, It was a piece, After some love it's great, It already needs new strings the Boy has been shreddin on it alot..
It realy just needed a set of strings and a good setup.
I'm the master of the Floyds, I can set em up sweet, Lots of practice and patience needed..
