  • Fusion Deluxe!

So there's this girl that comes into the store I work at regularly and one day I asked her what kind of guitar she plays...she said it was a pink Charvel, but she didn't really play it anymore because of bad fret buzz. I told her she should get the tech to set it up but she said that she didn't have any money, so I told her that I'd do what I could for her. Yesterday morning she brought it in while it was slow, so I tweaked it some and managed to get most of the buzz out (I didn't have a correct-fitting truss rod key to adjust the neck any). Anyway, this guitar was pretty rad-I had forgotten how much I dug those J-90 pickups, because that guitar sounded mean!! Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Wait I just remembered, I did have a question. I noticed that the Floyd on it was a locking, but non-fine tuning variety. Was this common on late 80s/early 90s imports? It also had a toothpaste logo and that halfassed trem route.

probably one of the single locking schallers. I'm not sure why they used those-I can't imagine they were any cheaper than a double locking one since the only difference is that saddles. They were fairly common-I have one on my fusion special and I believe thay also came on the Avengers as well.

My Fusion Deluxe has a double-locking JT-590 (Schaller), and I'm pretty sure that was the standard trem on all the Fusion Deluxes. Are you sure it was a Deluxe? The easiest way to tell is the bridge pickup--the Deluxe had a regular Jackson humbucker, while the Special had the twin angled single coils in the bridge position.

What was Jackson thinking about with those twin angled singles like the Avenger? Talk about an idea that failed.

those dual singles sucked ass for dirty sounds. For cleans, those singles sounded pretty good. After experimenting, i just sanded off the poity parts between them and dropped a full HB in there. Took about five mminutes with the dremel. four small holes for the ring and presto! Now I just need to find a better HB for it!
