Re: I joined the ranks!

I'm sure yours is, but that doesn't mean others of the same model weren't. I've owned a few Squier Affinity Strats from 1997 and 1998 that were solid wood bodies and 22 frets, then they changed to plywood and 21 frets. Now they say they're solid wood again, but still 21 frets.

It's quite possible they used plywood and solid basswood at different times according to whatever criteria. The only way to find out is to get a look at the unpanted body thickness-wise, in the neck pocket, control cavity or trem cavity. At that price it's no big deal if it is plywood, but if it's solid wood that would be much nicer to know, for Outlaw at least. Nothing against yours. Zeeg.

When I get it, I'll take a look at the wood for you guys. I'm curious now too. Thanks for letting me know what model it was (170), I was wondering about that earlier.
I was going to give it a long (few weeks) test run and see how it sounds before I started modding but I already made a mock up of what I'll be doing if it turns out to sound like "blah".

Basically back to what, I assume, it was before but with EMG-81s and "binding" (aka pinstiping) around the fret board/head stock.
I'm just hoping the Charvel logo will still be intact after removing the over spray.

I think the Logo will say Charvette, like this:

Yes, exactly.

Are you going to route for a neck humbucker?

Its not my guitar. I just borrowed the photo from ebay. Just search ebay for charvette and you will find it. Nice pics, almost like your mock up.

If it sounds bad, I will be routing the neck position for a 'bucker and installing EMGs, duel 81s.
I've always liked Jeff from Slayer's Soloist, so this project is based on that

Re: I joined the ranks!

Well I got it guys! Came in on Wednesday but I've been extremely busy with work to even play it until last night and today.
What a sweet axe! Great neck on it, fast and a little wider then my RR copy but a much better fretboard/fret job. I did find one problem with it. The plate that locks the E/A strings, the hole for the screw must be striped because it's not tightening up Other then that and the overspray, it's an awesome guitar.
The neck single coil is basically useless for me, it's lowered down out of the way. The bridge pickup isn't half bad at all though, I sort of dig it for what it is. I'm still thinking about changing it. Either an EMG-81 or a Dimarzio X2N. Oh yeah, the serial number is 007555, any idea what year that is? Thanks

Re: I joined the ranks!

Congrats! Glad you like it! You can get a replacement locknut off of Ebay for $10 or $15 bucks, don't let that bother you. Just pull off the old one and look underneath, it should say what "R" size it is; if not, measure the width of the nut and ask sellers the width on theirs.Anyway, glad you like it! Have fun!

It's one of those "behind the nut locking nuts", I haven't seen a lot of those on ebay. It looks as if the plate is not the original one anyways, so maybe I can just make one for it

Re: I joined the ranks!

That is one of the Japanese Charvettes due to the 12th Fret dot spacing so it should be a solid body. It must be right on the transition though as all other Jap built models that I have seen have had the TRS Style Bridge as opposed to the JT6.

Hey bro, congrats on your new slinging tool, and the nut you'll be looking for is more than likely going to be found under the "Kahler" name, they used those on all of their trem systems, i believe...

You could PM Hippietim, Budman58 or Charvel750
who all carry some Kahler parts, in that case.
