Re: Ok, here are soem pics.....help me ID this....

I'm with Pete on this. Not a dime over $200... OK, maybe $250.

It's great that it's NOS and it's a beautiful guitar. But that doesn't change he model. Don't let the name fool you, just because it says "Custom" in the name, it is very much a standard guitar. The STX of this era was considered a lower end guitar. (is that Klusons I see on it?? Maybe the neck was broken at some point and this is a replacement neck and somehow Klusons were stuck on it) A guitar aimed at the intermediate player. If you would compare this guitar to a NOS Model 4 (somewhat comparable in features and a guitar which I'd pay $350 for) you could definitely tell that the Model 4 was the superior guitar.

Now, take all that and throw it out the window because every guitar is worth whatever someone will want to pay for it.

OK. But the tuners don't look like any Jackson/Gotoh tuner that has been on any other model that I've seen or own. Though I've seen them on several Fender models. (which mostly use Klusons)

Hey, thats pretty good looking. The actually like the headstock, it looks pretty good.

On the price, pay what it feels like its worth.

If i remember correctly, the tuners Fender used are made by gotoh, to look just like the old Klusons.

So they are both Gotoh and Kluson

scrap dizzy for what it is worth. The money this guys is asking for this particular guitar you could get yourself a Model series Charvel. While this guitar looks brand new don't let that fool you. Other than the SD reissues I wouldn't touch a Charvel made after 91/92 the end of the toothpaste logo'ed model series Charvels. Build quality, electronics, trems, finishes all are of higher quality on the older model series Charvels. But that is my opinion. Watch ebay these do not pull much over $100. But do what you want if you want this one bad enough get it.

So your saying the Toothpaste model charvels are better than the others? I just remember guys like Jake E Lee playing the NON toothpaste kind etc...

Sound like this guitar might be a bit bastardized?

don't know much about post-toothpaste models either, but if that guitar's materials are pure (not any plywoods or hack hardware, and has good electronics), and you're going to play it, pay what you think it's worth to you. For me, that guitar would be worth 3 bills to keep and play (if the standards i described above apply), it's a damn nice guitar, IMO

Better than the mid through late 90s import Charvels yes I am. Better than the the 86-88 Model series personally no, I like the strat body over the Dinky body of the toothpaste models.
Jake played the older San Dimas American made Charvels. Apples and Oranges compared to what we are talking about.

If you feel it's $350 worth, buy it, but knowing full well that even if you keep it mint, you'd be lucky to sell it for $200. It is not a sought-after or well-known model and some will look at it wondering if it's a Korean model or maybe even Chinese. Does it have proof of being MIJ on it? To mee, you can get a Model 5 or 6 for that money and have a much nicer guitar that people will also recognize for what it is. If that doesn't matter and you're sure you'll never want or need to sell it, then pay the high-dollar price if you really dig it.

If I wanted that guitar's vibe (well, the Tele version) I'd look for a JTX Tele-style with one hum, one single, Floyd and pearl pickguard. Those are really nice and can be had for less than the $350 you're thinking of, and are MUCH nicer guitars for that money. They are Jackson though, not Charvel.
