• An import EVH?

hey guys. I'm not sure if this has been discussed before. Sorry if it has been.

Do you guys reckon that it would be a cool idea for Fender to bring out an import EVH model, like the high priced charvels but alot cheaper.

Duncan designed humbucker, Licened Floyd Rose, Maple neck and fretboard, Strat head, EVH paint job and Basswood body.

Sounds cool to me, what do you guys reckon?

I'd buy it, as long as the paint job is well done.

By the way, I think they should also resurrect the 80s Charvel Model series.

I agree on the model series come back. I'd love a Model 5

Yeah, I'd get a snow white Model 2. Wouldn't it be cool to see it turn into cream white through the years?

(Sorry about the offtopic I've started)

I've made that suggestion to the guys of JCMI at NAMM. Hopefully if we have enough folks here show interest in it, they'll bring it back.

If they do, they sure as hell better not make it in Korea.

I say they make it in Japan. Maybe not basswood as it'd kill the tone, but what about Alder? Cheap enough... Maybe have a upper class version with SD pickups, poplar or mahogany body, better neck... I think it'd be a cool as hell idea.

                  Re: An import EVH?

The originals were made with basswood. I felt the tone of them was fine.

I feel that the major problem with the last batch of Charvel imports were that they were more or less Jacksons with the pseudo-strat headstock and Charvel logo.

To go back to the true Model Series they would have to have the Strat dimensions, offered with top mounted Floyds and pointy-headstocks. One of the good/great things about the model series was that they were so upgradable. You could throw an original Floyd on it with no problem at all and nobody would know if it was original or not.

It would be great if they featured an updated version of the JT-6 made of a harder metal. It was a great design.

And a J90C pickup on the bridge! :-)

Excellent idea. A Model 2 and a 5A would be on my agenda... I am actually still looking for an old model series of those 2.

Basswood? I thought the Models 5 and 6 were poplar.

The bolt-ons were basswood and the neckthroughs were maple with poplar wings. WRT to bringing back the Model Series, I could see them maybe doing the bolt-ons, since they wouldn't be direct competition for the Jackson line. I'd love to see a maple-boarded Model 2. I doubt they would bring back the neckthrough models, just like they would never make anything like an early '90s Soloist Pro. I think they came too close to the quality of the USA Jacksons and were a threat to sales.

Yes, the neckthru models had poplar wings. All of the bolt-on models were made of basswood.
