  • Japanese Charvel Standard Opinions ?

    Ahem.

1st time poster, so a short introduction: 2 years ago I was looking for a posh guitar (self-reward after a prolonged work abroad). I checked out the usual suspects (Gibson and PRS) but then I saw a red Soloist with flametop and was converted (ebony fretboard ! neck-through ! Trem ! Trem stays in tune ! pointy headstock ! not as expensive !). Of course you have to get in shape to deserve that kind of guitar, so I'm currently working through my copy of Stetina's SMfLG - the long term goal is to play a decent version of 'Eruption' before I turn 60. My other guitars (is there any guitarist who onws only one instrument (except Brian May)) are a Fender Mexican Stratocaster (POS) a Gibson ES335 an Epiphone SG replica (Angus !) and a Parker NiteFly (what a great guitar !)

Recently some Charvels appeared here in Austria. These are mainly the new USA San Dimas models (aniversary, bullseye and an EVH art) that are way above my financial capabilities, but along them I spotted a nice model that could be a replacement for my Strat:

It's a Superstrat (deep cut-aways) with bolt-on, oil finished 24 fret maple neck. Stylized Strat-Head. A sticker on the back of the neck says 'Made in Japan'. It has 2 humbuckers and a vintage style Trem with 2 posts. Bone or synthetic white nut, black hardware. The model name is 'Charvel Standard'. Here's a German online shop with the same model:

    Japanese Charvel Standard

I like the unfinished neck and I am definitely considering such a model right now - anyone had experience with one of these ?

I've been under the impression that new Charvels are only made in the USA and that there is no budget-line ?

I always thought those were cool. Wouldn't pay much for one though.
