Re: \'80\'s Charvels are bang for the buck!

I want a model 5 or 5A now, I already have my model 6, but I'd gladly give my Soloist Pro for one!

Model 5's and 6's are just the best value for the money ever. If the Model 5 had an ebony fretboard, I'd own about 50 of them...and live in a cardboard box after my wife kicked me out of the house!

I just picked up an 88 Model 5FX and I have to agree. It was going to be a project guitar, but the Dusty Rose/Metallic Champagne finish has grown on me a lot. I'm just waiting for the pickups to get here from the UK and It will probably be the guitar I play the most.

I agree. I got my factory stock Model 2 for $100.00 out the door two years ago.

There is one other guitar I would put in the "bang for the buck" category with the Model series: that's the Kramer Focus guitars from the 80's. Original Floyd, one-piece maple neck, made in Japan by ESP. These can usually be had for around $100-200.00 these days. I have yet to pick up one of these that didn't still have a killer neck.

EDIT: Here's my Focus 1000, bought new in 1986:

No argument here. I've had my model 6 since 1987 and it's still my #1. For $300-400 now, you can't beat it!

Regarding that Focus 1000... I grabbed one of those in a pawn shop last year for $59. Same color, but it had a black duncan JB in the bridge.

Exactly. It would take some real luck to pick up just the OFR for $59.00.

I agree totally! My Charvel was from the early 90s and kills! It is so funny a lot of people haven't noticed "our" secret.

anybody who grew up playing in the 80"s know they rule
nowadays people see charvels as hair band garbage
my model 2 is still a unbelievable player that was good enough for top players for the time
anybody under 25 this is all a lie

well, one white model6 got snatched under my nose on ebay and it went for around $350
i got the fusion deluxe that i got now for roughly $400 shipped and it outplayes every guitar that i had my hands on (including the MM petrucci and axis models) the feel is just amazing. next thing i'm saving up is a RR1 though hehe

for the money these babies (charvels) go for, you cant buy anything decent these days. and ESPECIALLY where i come from. for $400 you could maybe get an ibeenhad RG270
You can't play no muthfuggin' arpeggios on a tuba...
