When was my 625C made?

I'm really new to guitars and I just picked up a real nice 625C CSB 6 String for $100 bucks the other day. The s/n is 14,6##. Can someone tell me the year that this series was built.

Also, I don't have an amp for this. Is there some way that I can play this through my stereo or is there some place that I can buy an inexpensive amp for this?

The series was made between 1992-1997. There hasn't been a conclusive way of determining the manufacture date that I have seen.

As far as an inexpensive amp, I'd try eBay or the Dealers page listed above.

That is a decent price for a 625 CSB. They have a varied market I've noticed.

As long as the preamp works... you can plug that directly into your stereo or tape deck from the guitars output jack using a standard guitar cable if the amp has a 1/4" mic input.
If it has an 1/8", get an adapter at radio shack.
Watch the volume level, you can blow out tweeters and woofers if overdoing their handling when having something as dynamic as a guitar directly plugged into it.

Yes, I believe that is an active preamp, so it should have a battery. I own an ATX which is a different Charvel acoustic but it has the same basic preamp. The difference being it also has a separate batt compartment.

From pics I've seen on this model, it looks as tho you have to loosen the two thumb screws on top of the preamp and lift it up. Underneath that should be a carriage that holds a 9 volt. The red LED indicates batt strength on this preamp I believe. (some preamps like ovation, it is the opposite - the LED indicates low batt)

Charvelguy, Thank you. I put a 9 volt into the guitar, turned down the volume, plugged in a set of headphones. The light came on and I could hear all of the strings through the headphones.

I'm still a bit curious about what year this was made. It would be nice to see a rough range of S/N's that were produced in the years between 92-97. With the number in the 14600 range, I'm assuming that it was more towards 96-97.

Your welcome, glad it works for you.

Forum members did a compilation of serials on the model series electric’s over a year ago and got a rough idea of which serials were attributed to what years for MIJ guitars.

We never did anything like this with the acoustics as they are Korean made and typically do not generate as much interest it seems.
We never even got into the addressing Charvels Korean serialization system.

Sometimes you are able to date a guitar by available colors or variances in features. I've seen 625's in natural, black, CSB, and I believe occasionally a wine red type of color. Not sure if these were subject to custom finishes...someone else may have a better idea on that.

If you want to encourage other 625 and acoustic owners to speak up about their guitars and share their serial info, you may be able to compile enough data to get a better idea.

It would be particularly helpful if someone has bought one of these new and recalls the date of when they purchased it. Not sure how many people on this forum are 625 owners though.
