I saw an ad in the local paper yesterday for an "old Charvel" so as usual in the car I went and checked it out. I was shocked by the excellent condition it was in (needs one tone knob and control cover appears to have delaminated) and bought it! $100.00! What I was curious about was the the year. The serial# under the clearcoat is C6030** which I assumed meant 1986. The back of the body only has a control cover. I have seen some others with control and a cover in the center. Did they change this after 1986? It has a Kahler that appears never to have been used. It appears to be cobalt blue or something similar to that. The bridge, nut and machines are all in great shape. Is this an '86? Also, any suggestions on where to get a replacement control cover? Thanks.

Re: What year is my Model 5?
Congrats on a great score! It's an '86, since that was the only year they came w/ the Kahler. Dave (Budman68) can hook you up with the cavity cover. His site is here: http://www.fretsonthenet.net

Re: What year is my Model 5?
The reason you don't see a cover in the center is that the tremolo is a Kahler, Kahlers have a cam mechanism that is housed within the unit. Most tremolos have the tremolo cavity because it's the location of the tremolo springs that return the tremolo to 0.Occupy JCF
