Pete mentioned how heavy a 750XL can be in another thread here and he reminded me of someone I met last week.
There was this guy my uncle knew who was really smart but bummed around playing in bands here and there and never kind of grew up. I took about 2 or 3 lessons from him over 10 years ago when I was just starting out. Didn't learn anything I remember or use today.
Anyway, I do remember he played a Charvel back then, and I used to bring my 750XL, which I thought was just the bees knees of Charvels of course. My memory is hazy but he more than likely had a Model 2 or something, I don't think it was a USA.
I saw him at a gig last Friday and said Hi, remember me, blah, blah. He still has the same Krokus haircut he's had forever. He also used to see me play in a Kiss covers band so it had been a while. I asked him about his guitars and how it was going and he said he was playing an Ibanez Sabre these days. Ok, how was the Charvel, where was it, why did he stop playing it? Well, he still has it somewhere, he loved the thin neck on it, but it was TOO HEAVY for when he was playing!!!
Puh-lease, I couldn't beleive it. In the Kiss covers days I used to play four sets with a LP, no problem, until the day I tried to use a strap like Slash's, boy did that suck, went back to a big, full one right away. Did a lot of gigs with the 750XL too, they're not that heavy, a lot of wood is routed for the Floyd, lol....
A LP for four sets would hurt right now, but you get used to it. Maybe when the Sabre gets too much this guy can get a Parker or something....
