• Charvel Pointy Headstocks

I've taken notice that the headstock on my 1988 Model 1A is LARGER than the headstock on my 1986 Model 3.

Did they change the headstock size? I can't recall any previous talk about headstock sizes on here, so thats why I ask.

    Thank you.

    Anyone?

This may seem like kind of a dumb question, but I want to know.

Were the headstock sizes different for every year?

Hmmm. You got me. The only ones I have are all 3 89s. I can't compare years. But I'd be interested to know.

I'm fairly sure the headstocks on my 1A, 3 and 4 are all the same, but I haven't measured. They don't look different.

My model 88 and my 750s (which are toothpaste logo) are the same size.

actually you're right about the headstock sizes. Jim Shine and a few others and myself did a comparison on Charvels & Jacksons and there were several diffrerent sizes. If I recall correctly the Jackson Fusion Pro had the smallest headstock of them all. I don't remember much about that though so maybe you could do a general search about this.

              Ok, Thanks.

I was beginning to wonder if one of them was a fake.

              I'll do a search again.

Wow.... I never thoght about this before. I just measured my '86 3A, '88 Model 6, and my Model 88..... Guess what? They are ALL different sizes. The Model 88 is the smallest, then the 3A, and then the 6. Maybe all three of mine are fakes.

I didn't measure them, but I can see that the Model 1A's headstock is about 1 cm longer than the Model 3, and about .5 cm taller.

                    Re: Charvel Pointy Headstocks

I've noticed that the HS on my USA Jackson is shaped slightly different from the ones on my imports ... the USA is a little less pointy. Probably just sanded better. Not Charvels, but relevant nonetheless. I'm guessing sanding and cutting each one individually is what makes the difference.

I just read about this issue on Jim Shines excellent jacksonsolist.com site, its under the "Opinions on Jackson Guitars" section.

I have an '87 (?) model 6 and a model 2 neck on my Strat, I'll compare them and let you know.
