Show me your 88's!

[img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] ), I've been trying to restore a Model 88 that I have acquired in seriously bad shape. Well I've been having a F$%^ of a time with the paint and trying to get the reddish burst just right. I'm soon ready to throw in the towel and just strip the b!tch and do a nice oiled Mahogany body and be done with it.

Can you tell I'm getting a bit pissed off? [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] ?

Seriously, please show me some of your Model 88's so I can gain some more inspiration to finish this beast!

I think there is a web site that is dedicated to the 88's. Yeah I guess I am lazy and should have done a google search for it. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] I will see if I can find the link.

Here's some pics of the 88 I currently own (#77).

That finish probably would be tough to get just right.
Depending on lighting, the color tends to vary in appearance from a tobacco burst to more of a cherry burst.....you can see this in my pics with flash & without flash.

I've often thought that it would have been cool if they had done these guitars in the same color, but with a rubbed oil finish, as opposed to the clear lacquer or poly. I've kept #77 mint by being very careful & not really playing it. I've owned another 88 (#289) that I didn't baby so much.....and I know that the clear on these guitars gets chips & dings practically if you look at it the wrong way. <font color="aqua">Those lok great Brian, I like the difference of the flash "contrast" in the pics. I'm definitely going for more of the cherry look as I just happen to love Brian (Swillmasters) old 88'. His had a lot of the darker red tones too it.

As for the finish, you aren't kidding! That has to be the worst finish ever! You just tap it and it becomes separated from the color coat [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img].
