my only experience with toothpaste logo'd Charvels is with the Charvel Predator, i wish i had bought one because i loved most of the features and it's construction (plus i found out later on that Tommy Victor of Prong had used one consistently from the Beg To Differ through the Prove You Wrong albums, and i really dug his variety of tones in that era), but opted for a Jackson Dinky Reverse at the time because it had a 24 fret neck...but since discovering those pics of the 550xl and the 750xl, I'd really like to check those models out...or just trade my Soloist Pro for a Model 5...but my Soloist went through a flood (TS Allison 2001) and survived with some swell cracks on the backsid...

Actually that was my first introduction to the Toothpaste series, seeing that Prong video "Snap your Fingers Snap your Neck" (Is that "Beg To Differ"?) Also I don't seem to remember it being a Predator as I thought it was a black non reverse Fusion series or 550XL Hum-single combo 24 fret chrome hardware. What year was that video put out 1990/91? Good times...
I had a Model 3, i think, and that was sweet, but i got rid of it for a Gunslinger...
Now I've got a Fusion Custom, and other than the wood neck pcket crack, it is a Sweet axe. I dig it a lot. both had real nice necks. and the board on my Fusion's a nice dark brown.
though i agree with you guys, as the Fusion doesn't have as nice a dark rosewood as the Model.
I really like the Model series guitars, but like everyone else stated, the Floyd was a serious upgrade. I own both and like the Model series necks just a hair more. If they only came with the Floyd!!
I find the neck shape on the model series is usually a little more 'beefy' save for the 3DR, which seems more like a toothpaste.
Some of the model neck thrus seem to have a slightly heftier profile than the repsective toothpastes as well. The toothpastes seem to have a wider, flatter radius.
The neck finish as well seems to differ; the models usually have that gloss poly coat while the toothpastes seem to have a less thick satin finish.
Of course, the Toothpastes have the added advantages of
offering 24.75 scale, flame maple tops and hardware that is considered of a better quality (floyd nut, schaller trems).
You'll not find those options on a model series unless it was modified.
I don't mind the JT-6, I like having the fine tuners out of the way of my palm and the flat saddles, it kinda reminds me of a floyd pro or edge in a way. The floyd setup on the models/JT-6 doesn't seem as stable a trem as a schaller on the whole tho, but they can still can hold themselves as a floyd if tweaked right. It seems to vary from guitar to guitar or maybe its just me.
A very long time ago...2 wives ago..LOL...I had a Model 4 in what I think was a cobalt blue or dark blue w/ light flake. It had fins and 3 seperate mini toggles with the JT6 trem. Only problem I had out that guitar was the same wobbly arm thing that I use to have to tweak on a few old Ibanez guitars. I don't remember having any other issues with that bridge, although from what I've read since joining here..most seem to NOT be big fans of the JT6.

i haven't seen that video in years, but i think it was possibly '94 or '95 for that video, and i can't remember what guitar he used in it, plus that was from the CLEANSING album, but i know for sure he used the Predator in the "Unconditional" video from the PROVE YOU WRONG album...when i saw him live during the CLEANSING tour, he had used Charvel Surfcasters and Gibson SG's on stage...
