What was the price range on all the Model series guitars when they were new?

From the '87 catalog:

Model 1: $399.95
Model 1A: $449.95
Model 2: $549.95
Model 3: $649.95
Model 3A: $599.95
Model 4: $849.95
Model 5: $949.95
Model 6: $1049.95

A couple of these went up a bit according to the '88 list in the Blue Book thread, (eg. $1149.95 for the Model 6).

'88 Sam Ash prices (from Greg's post in the other thread) adjusted to '05 dollars:

They weren't cheap, and they're a killer value now as we all know!

wow! Those prices, particularly the inflation-adjusted ones, make me feel a whole lot better about my little collection. I get to factor in US/AU$ exchange rates, shipping, import duties too. So I've made out like a bandit!!! [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I wasn't offered over $200 for my Model 5 (which is in great condition BTW) when I was looking to trade it in a few years back for a Les Paul. After being insulted at the offers I received, I kept the guitar and am now glad I did. It still amazes me when I see a thread like this that these guitars can be had for a fraction of there original cost because they're amazing players. I paid $715 + tax for it new in '86 at Sam Ash.

HOLY HELL!!!!!
I'll never look at my 4 with the same eyes again. I love it even more. I had no idea it'd be over 800 dollars!! Wow...
Now if only I had a lot more money to buy a 6 and a 3 grrrr. Do you think that in 7 years there'll still be loads of them on ebay?

I thought I paid around $600 each for the Model 5's I bought new. I could be wrong, I smoked a lot of pot back then. LOL

DG - what rate of inflation did you use? Also, the Sam Ash prices look a little high (as corroborated by others who've posted their historical purchase prices).

I Googled for "inflation calculator". First result was here:

The '87 to '05 factor is 1.68, which I used to convert the '87 catalog prices & the '88 Sam Ash prices that Greg listed in the other thread. I didn't check for the '88 - '05 rate, so it might have bumped them a few bucks. Here's the '88 prices that he posted, w/ Sam Ash prices in parentheses:

Model 1A: $499.95
Model 1C: $549.95
Model 2: $599.95 ($429.00)
Model 3: $699.95 ($492.00)
Model 3A: $599.95 ($429.00)

His Sam Ash prices seem to follow pretty closely with what I've heard people say they paid, though some did better at clearance sales or whatever.
