Sorry, I know nothing about Charvels. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] A guy on craigslist has had this up for a while:

It's a beautiful guitar, but is it really rare? And at any rate, is $550 a good price for it? Thanks!

Well rare how? .. 1st off it's an import.. yes they say they are rare but consider this.. there were supposed to be 1000 of these made (all the same) There were just over 5000 usa charvels made ever... so this so called limited run is almost 1/5 of the entire USA run ... so ..would you think it was Rare?

Not necessarily. To many, the holy grails of Charvels are the prepros, the earliest of which, do not say "Made in USA".

The indication with this guitar is the Charvel logo itself. The logo with the pointed six-on-a-side headstock indicates import. The USA logos of that era had a 3-on-3 headstock. (the latest batches of Import Charvels had the 3-on-3 headstock but had the "pseudo-strat" headstock)

It's not rare, but they are definitely uncommon. Worth $550? That's a decent price. I've seen them sell for $1000, and I bought one off ebay for $237 BIN. If it's dead mint, then it's a decent price. The seller is local to me, fwiw....

This is a model 88, right? Has it been for sale for very long? If you like it, make the guy an offer. The worst he can do is say no. Shouldnt this come with some sort of certificate or something stating that its one of 1000 made?
