• Charvel Limited A+ koa topped - just arrived

i just bought a brand new one and it arrived last night - woohoo! it screams w/ the JB bridge hum and two single stacked JB hums in mid and neck. the frets are perfectly rounded on the ends and highly polished - so smooth. i would only expect this type of quality craftmanship from a custom shop. i'm very impressed. i'll try to get some pics hosted and post them. she is so sleek and sexy w/ her birds eye maple neck, ebony fretboard, real pearl dots and flame topped koa w/ a mahogany body. the headstock is so so. it is the "limp" charvel strat style - of course an SD headstock would've been the s**t. no biggie.
i will most likely change the trem from the JT580 (?) to an original Floyd but the jury is still out on the stability of this current trem. so far it doesn't seem all that stable but i still need to tweak a few things. is it an easy swap to drop in an OFR? did these really list at $1750? i paid way less than half of list for it (eBay) and so far i'm out-of-my-mind w/ joy over this axe.
this is the first Charvel i've purchased since high school (model 4 '88) and i'm lovin' the hell out of it!
sorry can't type anymore - i'm off to play my new axe!

I love. I just found out about those model As and I really am interested in those.
And sweet model 4 you have I have a model 4 myself. Are you sure yours is a 88? Mine has the same features as yours but in Cobalt blue, I always thought it was an 87 and that 88 were different for some reasons.

Sweet Charvel and a very nice collection overall. I see you have a Hamer Special FM just like mine.

I have two Model A's and I can't find any problems with the stock trems at all. I don't get what the big deal is with replacing with a floyd.

Re: Charvel Limited A+ koa topped - just arrived

my model 4 might be an '87. i'm sure my serial # would disclose the answer. next time i pull it out, i'll post the #'s.
i'm hoping i don't have to change the trem. i haven't had this guitar long enough to know if the overall stability is there. i am familiar with the ibanez edge line of trems more than i am with the jackson/charvel liscensed models. this trem seems similar to the lo trs version ibanez uses. i'm told they work fine if you add a tremsetter. i use the trem very radically sometimes and so far the trem goes way out of tune. it is a brand new guitar so it will have a "break in" period with the springs and getting a grove worn in the studs for the base plate so i'm not going to condemn it yet. i hope i don't have to change it - time will tell.
i will say the fine tuners are very rough to turn and not smooth at all - again maybe it is just a break in period. it is suprising that such a high quality guitar would not come with an OFR stock. this guitar is amazingly nice. the fret ends are highly polished and rounded like a custom shop guitar. the neck is wide and flat and feels sooo smooth. it has real pearl dots on an ebony board attatched to a birds eye maple neck. she is truly a sexy beast with a classic vibe!
i will get a chance to try her out tonight at a gig and see how she performs on the job. i'll post my findings.
i'll post pics of the other newbie - '76 Explorer reissue - that arrived last night (i waited ALL day for FedEx and he finally showed up at 7:30 last night - but at least he showed up!). the Gibson and this Charvel look like a nice pair sitting together. i'm totally beside myself with these new babies. this is my second new Explorer in less than a year (sold the last one) and all i can say is "WoW!!". this ones' fit and finish are far superior to the last. i'll post pics and possibly start a new thread about it.

Most likely it's the knife edges. When I got my Charvel the trem didn't stay in tune either, I had to get it repaired. The tremolo is pretty good so far, I've had no problems with it.

the guitar sounded, felt and played great as long as i stayed off the trem. it had almost 0 stability if used. i'll keep working with it and have a tech friend check it out.
the mini JBs haven't struck my fancy yet and don't seem to give much tonal difference when toggling between them but the JB bridge pup is a solid screamer.
i'm still drooling over her classy, raw yet refined looks. i'll probably wear off the finish looking at her so much!

I been looking at those on eBay lately, but the seller didn´t ship overseas. Those are sweet axes. I´d like to see it with gold hardware though.
Congrats

These are good guitars, but I guess I was mostly disappointed in them since they're more or less re-badged Jackson Dinkys/PCs.

Did someone change the pickups? They're supposed to come with a Pearly Gates in the bridge and two Li'l Screamin' Demons in the middle and neck. Cool guitars!

Good to see another Jemsiter here too!

You're right in thinking that the trem is like the lo TRS from Ibanez. Jackson has used that trem on so many high end guitars... the store I work for just had a mid 90's USA Dinky in for a fret dress and it had the JT-580 also. Not really a bad trem, just not an OFR or Edge for that matter. They can be stable if you're patient with it and set it up properly...

Enjoy the new Axe!!!

thanks man.
i thought i'd spread my wings a little and seeing how much i love my Jackson/Charvels, i signed up here.
very cool site with a lot of really cool and informative members.
the pickup is original - JB. i found the specs somewhere. i'll post a copy when i get a chance.
i have a pearly gates in my SLS and it is a different animal than the JB. this guitar is stock and brand new. these are getting blown out ($) bue to flaws from the factory. i haven't found a flaw on this one yet, but i'm sure there is one somewhere. they stamped the headstock "used" due to the flaw - i just can't find the flaw.
i plan to have my tech check it out and see if he can stabalize the trem for me. i've tried almost everything i know (except the chapstick fix) and still haven't got the stability i desire. i'm patient - i have plenty of other guitars to keep me company until then. it plays great until i use the trem - so i just don't use the trem for now and all is cool.
