Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but what is everyone's take on the Jackson Trem.. Yay, nay? Thanks.

The JT6 works well, I just hate the fine tuners. If it is in good condition, you should have no trouble with it. Once it starts going bad, replace it with a Schaller or OFR.

I'm the same way with the JT-6. I just don't like the fine tuners, otherwise it's perfectly fine for me. The Schallers and OFRs are direct replacements as well.

I thought that they didn't seem too, too bad. These are new to me so I'm still doing my tinkering.

And oh yeah, the fine tuners are goofy as all hell.

I wish they had made them of better metal, but I kind of like the design. I like the placement of the fine tuners, but they can be a bit of a pain to adjust. They also have a slightly narrower string-spacing than an OFR. I agree w/ what Stuka said, & I think they work fine as long as they are in good shape, but once they start to go downhill they aren't worth fighting with & trying to rehab, imo.

Yep, that more or less sums it up.. Great design, works great, but bad choice of materials in 2 or 3 spots (Baseplate, Block, locking screws...). But at least an OFR is a direct retrofit in most cases, or grab one for parts off eBay if you can find one, they can usually be had for under 50 bucks

Most of the JT-6's I've had were pretty trashed by the time I got them, so I usually replaced them with Floyds.

What kind of Floyd or Schaller did you replace the original trems with?

I replaced mine with a Schaller Floyd Rose, but the guitar repair guy had to replace the two screws that the original Jackson was "hangin onto" with to narrower ones, so he had to fill the two holes, and then drill two new holes into the filled wood.

Did you also have to do this???

BTW:
I have a Charvel Model 4 - cobalt blue, sharkfin inlays...

A Schaller or Original Floyd Rose should be able to work fine with the JT-6 posts, as long as they're in decent shape. The spacing is the same (or extremely close). You lose a little bit of the full range of motion that you'd get with the correct posts, but not much.

Thanks for the answer dg.

Maybe I'll take the two replaced posts out again, since there is no paint on them, so it looks a bit silly with the cobalt blue guitar, and then bare wood around the posts...

[/ QUOTE ] I had GMW put a new Schaller on my Model 6 when they refinished it and the posts were also replaced.
