They are the reason I dislike 87& 88 J/C it's made of pot metal and is just plain cheap. I even like Kahler better,a 5FX is the only guitar I have with one on and I only paid $150 with EMG for it.

What kind of Floyd or Schaller did you replace the original trems with?

I replaced mine with a Schaller Floyd Rose, but the guitar repair guy had to replace the two screws that the original Jackson was "hangin onto" with to narrower ones, so he had to fill the two holes, and then drill two new holes into the filled wood.

Did you also have to do this???

I usually use original Floyds. You can have a machinist mod the original posts with a bigger V-notch for full whammy action. Put some gun blue on the post after machining, and it will look like new. You can still put the JT-6 back on if you wish.

Cool - thank you Lex!

I was thinking about the same - machining the original studs or having new inserts made with wider diameter...

The easyest would off course be screwing the new floyd/schaller studs into the orignal Jackson inserts, but OFF COURSE the threads are not the same

Here's a better picture. Someone should make new studs like these to retrofit, I don't think it would be too hard to do.

btw
are there any early model 2s with a kahler pro?
or did they only use that kahler floyd thing on the early m2s?

I guess you can count me in the "contrary" group here. I love the design of the JT-6, including the fine tuner location, but I think it's made of the cheapest pig iron known to man. I bought a Model 2 a couple of years ago. On the first restringing, I had to use needle-nosed vice grips on the 'B' string.

It does stay in tune well, though.
