• Can you help me identify my 475? (pics included)

Hey all. This is my first post.

Yesterday I traded a Dillion Les Paul copy that I had for a Charvel 475. I know that the guitar was baught new in 1990 on sale for $949 with the case. The guy I traded with told me that the tag said 475 Special but he didn't know if that was the model or if it was a 475 on special .

The guitar plays and sounds great and I was hoping that you guys would be able to tell me what model it was for sure and any specs on the guitar. Thanks guys

    Here are some pics....

I think you have a 475 Deluxe Exotic. It's a beauty, and those are great pics, btw. Here's a link to a catalog scan:

Yep, sweet guitar you have there. Maple neck, basswood body, maple top, rosewood fretboard, J50BC, 2 J200s, and the Schaller trem. You've got a mighty fine axe.

Thanks man (I whipped out the tripod for those pics ). Is it the same guitar as a 475 Deluxe but with a flamed top? I can't read the description on the catalogue because the words are too small

As far as specs go, I'm pretty sure you've got a J50BC in the bridge & two J200 stacked hums, along with the JE-1200 active midboost system. These have an excellent trem, the Schaller-made JT-590, which most folks will say is the best licensed Floyd that Jackson has put out.

Oops, forgot about the active mid boost circuit. I've got the 650xl which is more or less a neck thru version of the 475, but with poplar wings. It is my best sounding, best playing guitar by far. Yes, it is the same guitar as the 475 Deluxe, and 475 Special for that matter, but with the maple top. In 1989 it was named the 475 Special, but it had the exact same specs.

Here is a better scan from the '89 catalog (click on the pic to enlarge):

but I think they called it a "Special" that year and offered it with the flamed top as an option. Not sure if it was only referred to as a Deluxe Exotic later on or what.

Thanks guys. Maybe it is a special then.... is there any way that it can be dated by the serial number ?
