Model 88 's - Where is number 0001...?

I've been "tracking" Model 88's for awhile - the lowest serial number I've seen is 0003. Anybody know the whereabouts of # 0001? #0002? How about #1000?
I was told once that half of the 88's were exported. Someone else said that it was numbers 0500 through 1000 that were the ones sent overseas. I haven't been able to confirm any of that...

There was one on e-bay a few days ago that had a #5XX serial number ,but I think it expired,They were starting the bid at $349 ,It was pretty banged up though.It was from a store in Wichita,Kansas I believe.
