• More guitar porn! Charvel pictures inside!

There are just a few faults that prevent the Model 6 from being a truely perfect guitar. Those bloody individual switches are so annoying that I will not even bother installing better single coils.

As well that locking nut located behind the nut is not so pleasing as well. Has anyone had any luck having a proper Floyd nut installed and what was used as the shim?

Still strung up with GHS 11's it just rocks!

one man's faults are another man's features.

Quite a few here have said that they much prefer the 3 mini-toggles to say, a blade switch. That can make the difference between buying a Model 3 & a Model 4 for some. Many old school SD guitars came equipped with them too.

Some people also like that the Kahler lockdown mechanism allows the strings to pass over a "proper" nut, instead of the metal base of a Floyd nut. The short distance between the lockdown blocks and the nut doesn't really allow from much binding at the nut anyway.

Personally, I don't mind the 3 mini toggles at all. And you get the two extra pickup combinations if you are so inclined to use them...

my 3 switches werent wired when i got my model 6 so i have no idea how they sound.i do like to use the neck pickups for different stuff but all thats active is the emg by the bridge.I saw a diagram on a post on some wiring but im not to sure about doing it myself even tho i have worked on different types of electronics.

Granted the extra pup configurations are flexible, but try switching pups live. I still would have prefered a standard 5-way to those switches.

Has anyone ever wired the stock single coils without the mid-boost? Given that mine never had one (when I bought it)I did not wire then as I have heard that they are meant to be used solely with that mid-boost.

Those three switches are the reason why I prefer the 5 way blade on my 650xl. I don't really need the two extra pup configs. I would rather be able to switch between them quickly.

I agree with you Travis. Though it might be a cool option on a studio guitar, it is totally useless live. Kind of reminds me of some Tom Anderson's that have like a million switches. Good luck switching pups live. By the time you turn one off and the other one, the song has ended. Too NASA like for my tastes. Matter of fact I don't even like tone knobs on stage guitars.

Besides with a standard 5-way and a push-pull pot just about any configuration can be had.

I like the three on offs, I guess it's just a matter of taste. The mid boost is no longet in my 6, and the lone remaining stock single is less than impressive. I never use it. I do like the sound of the lil '59 in the neck and the JB in the bridge together, though.

[/ QUOTE ]useless live? I dont get it. I just leave the bridge pup on and turn on the neck. Keeps the volume more even, and still gives that neck pickup smoothness for sweeps, etc.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL
