• stock 750xl wiring

First off, hi guys! I've been lurking here for a long time but never posted.

I bought a 750xl a few weeks back and was wondering what the positions on the 5 way super switch are. I did some backsearching and couldnt find this info. So sorry if it's been covered before.

Thanks alot

Yuo know, since I don't have one that's stock I couldn't help you. I thought that they came stock with a 3 way switch, though. One of mine has a three way. And I put a 5 way in my other one. I've got the 5 way wired up as:

1: full neck
2: split neck
3: split neck/split bridge
4: full neck/full bridge
5: full bridge

I love this set up and find it ver versatile. You might try sending a pm to Scooter. I know he has a bone stock 750xl so he might be able to help you.

And welcome.

Mine is set up:

1: full neck
2: outer coils of both pickups
3: both pickups (all coils)
4: inner coils of both
5: full bridge

I think this was the stock setup, but I'd like to try something like Travis has. I don't use position 3, and I'd like to try just the split neck in that spot maybe.

I had another guitar wired like that with a pair of Duncan Distortions. Sounded great. Get yourself a superswitch and have at it.

Whats the distortion like in the neck? I've got an old charvel tele with a 59b in the neck which sounds great. The neck humbucker in the 750xl is extremely disappointing.

It is my favorite neck pickup for high gain, shred metal leads. It cleans up quite nicely too. It stays clear, yet is smooth enough to keep a warm tone.

I found both stock pups in mine to be disappointing... I replaced them with a Pearly Gates bridge and a DiMarzio PAF neck. I have them wired to the stock 5 Way Super Switch to be:
1: Neck Full
2: Outer Coils
3: Both Full
4: Inner Coils
5: Bridge Full

I'm tempted to get a Super Distortion for the bridge...

I definitely need to replace the bridge as well. Not enough power or crunchy enough. I cant believe jackson put these electronics in when they could've made the guitar completely awesome with better pickups. The only thing it does really well atm is clean sounds.

It has been the consensus here that 750's sound best with EMG pickups. An '81 in the bridge brings the guitar to life.
"Got a crazy feeling I don't understand,
Gotta get away from here.
Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground
Waitin' for the sun to appear..."
