• Standard routing on model series?

Were all pickguarded guitars routed HSS or HSH or swimming pool or like the pickup configuration was?
I'm eyeing a model 1a (I think... maple board, vintage trem, 3 single coils and black pickguard) and I'm wondering if I'll be able to put the J50BC I'll have spare in a few days in the bridge position.

With a router, anything is possible.

I'm thinking they were swimming pool routed, but I have been wrong before.

The 86 Model 3A is definately a swimming pool route, and I believe the Model 1A's were as well.

All models with pickguards had the swimming pool route

Thanks a bunch! I'm projecting a little fun with the one hehe...

Quick question, I noticed that it has 3 knobs: do they also have the midboost preamp present on the models 4,5 and 6?

No. Like a strat it's a volume and two tone controls.

Even better :-D
Also the trem cover plate is non recessed and it is on my model 4... Why that? Is it one of those 'because it's the way it is' thing or is there a reason?

They did it that way to make guys like you ask questions about it.

Seriously though, I don't know. There isn't functionality in it over the other way. Maybe it's just a touch of laziness.

Re: Standard routing on model series?

hehe yeah I ask A LOT of questions but it's a guitar that's at least 16 years old, anything can be changed on it. I'd rather be sure about everything.
I already feel it'll be quite hard to change the 6 screws trem to a wilkinson 2 posts single locking trem

You'd have to dowel the holes and re-paint the guitar for it to look good.

Yeah... it looks like I have no way out. How is the trem on those anyway? Maybe I could just get a graphite nut and graphtech saddles... along with locking tuners it should be quite decent. But I don't have experience with these 6 screws vintage trems.

Re: Standard routing on model series?

Pott, The trems on the Model 1's are OK. IMO I wouldn't waste the money on the locking tuners, grapite nut or the saddles. While those are upgrades you are still going to be fighting tuning problems with a Model 1.

Look at the Jackson headstock, the low E, G,B, high E strings all angle off of the nut towards the tuners. Where a strathead stock runs the strings straight through the nut to the tuners. Allowing the strat to stay more in tune after using the trem. Even with a graphite nut the angle of the strings prevent them from coming back completely intune after using the trem.

I never use the trem on my Model 1c. It is setup like a hardtail.

Fair enough about the tuning problems. Right now my model 4 has its trem blocked so I'll probably keep the model 1a's trem flush with the body and use it as a hardtail. I'm still going to wire the guitar for 2 volumes and a tone, and place the J50BC from my 4 in the 1 muhuaha
What was the model 1c?

Same as yours except without the pickguard and with a humbucker in the bridge position.
