Joined the model series club !

Just picked her up a nice 1987 red model 2 with PAF Pro


First impressions are real good, first guitar with kahler i own and i think i'll get used to it [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

2 questions : the pickup is waxpotted, what does that mean ? and secondly i like the sound of the pu but i also have a unused SD custom custom lying around, would you think the tone will improve when i put the SD in ?

What kind of Kahler is that? They came with a different one, or a JT6. Looks great anyway. That is really the only strat I would own.

The pickup is dipped in wax to help prevent squeal.

It is a Kahler 2700.

the wax potting helps to prevent this.

Hey neighbour.. cool guitar, I love them!

-1st) waxpotted means that the windings of the pup are now in place and not/less susceptible to feedback or to pass fretting noises or clappin' on the body
-2nd) the body of these are basswood, which is soft, straight grained and tough wood, makin the sound to be less brighter (= more darker), so your pup which has the lowest resonant frequency should make the best sounding Model here

The Kahler is certainly non original and added later on, I believe originally it should have been a JT-6 (my '86 still has a Kahler Fulcrum).

Also known as the Kahler Spyder, they are Kahler's last attempt at capturing the Floyd Rose market.

I would throw the Custom/Custom in there if that were mine. And I'm not just saying that because I have a Custom/Custom waiting to be put into my Model 2 when I'm done with it. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Actually the spyder is not the same as a 2700. I have both and they are different. I think the 2700, which he has, is called the killer.
