Weren't those spiders also placed on MIJ Fender Heavy Metal Strats?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I had 2 of them in the 90's (whish I've never sold blabla ), and I'm sure they had Kahler trems.. but were they Spiders?

          Thanx guys !

Thanks for the answers pebber !

Travis : I think i will put the cust./cust. in as a friend has interest in the PAF pro that is in it, i just have to find my solder iron back haha.

          Pott : I got it for 190 euro's

Only problem so far is that the kahler seems to be mounted wrongly (see diagram) so it is impossible to lower the action wich is too high for my preference.

Is this the way it is supposed to be mounted ?

190???? Fuck! The guitar was advertised for 300, hell I'd have gone for it for 200 MEeeeeh
            Great score though :P
Take it out and put it on again? On the Killer, are the knife edges on the trem or on the posts?

Re: Joined the model series club !

The Floyd 'balances' on the posts because of 2 knife edges. They're the pivot point. They're called knife edges because they're very sharp and have to stay sharp to maintain the bridge in tune when you abuse the whammy bar. On the Kahler spyder, those sharp edges are on the posts and not on the bridge. On all Floyds but this one, they're on the bridge itself, and I'm not sure about the Killer.

The 2 silver parts on the trem (one curved, one straight) are the knife edges.
Amersfoort... is it close to Amsterdam? If you ever go to DirkWitte (the music shop there) we should meet sometime.

Re: Joined the model series club !

Aaah that makes it clear thanks, the knife edges are on the trem itself.

I usually shop at feedback music utrecht/rotterdam or if i can get a ride i go to musik-produktiv in germany cause i have a business card of a friend and with that in germany you don't have to pay VAT (19%).

Amersfoort is only 30 min from Amsterdam, actually i was there yesterday to pick up the model 2.

Yes, thats the way its supposed to be. The top of the stud is sharp like that and fits into a groove in the trem unit, opposite of the floyd setup. Here is a spyder.

Note the sharp edges on the mounting posts. This is not the trem you have btw. You have the killer or 2700

Note that the pic I posted is of a new 2700 and the ends of the locking posts look a little different. That guitar probably had a kahler fulcrum on it originally as I believe the post spacing is the same, roughly from e to e. Unless you can see that it was redrilled or there are vintage trem holes or its a refin. Oh, btw, nice guitar!!!!

                        Thanx Carbuff !

So the trem is set up properly, is there another way i can lower the action cause it really is high.

The stud is screwed in to the most.

You mean like putting something in the end of the neck pocket, will that work ?

Intonation is perfect like it is now i wouldn't want that to change.

Yes, thats the idea. If you look at many fender guitars and even the old peavey predators, they have that little extra hole in the neckplate. Thats for an adjustment that tilts the neck back or forward to help raise or lower the action independent of the trem height. You probably dont even have to take it apart. Just loosen the strings, then the neck bolts until you can see space towards the base. Then just shove something thin like a piece of a matchbook or something like that. That should do the trick. And if youre lucky you might even need to raise the bridge a bit too giving you a bit more room for pull ups on the bar.

Shimming the neck really did the job, thanks alot for the tip !
