Model 5

Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help me out with the following: I can buy a Model 5 or 6 second hand. Thing is that I actually like the 5 more because of its Kahler and double humbuckers, which will allow me to put EMG's in there.

But I read about the 6 being really close to the USA soloist. And the 6 looks nicer... [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

So my question is: is the 5 basically the same as the 6, which will make it also very close to the soloist.

The 5 will cost me about €450,-
the 6 will cost me about €550,- (which includes OHSC)

Just so you are aware: Both model 5 and 6 came with Kahlers in 1986. After that they both got the JT-6 licensed Floyd.

Apart from the pickup config, controls, inlays and binding, they're essentially the same thing - a maple neckthrough guitar with poplar body wings. I would personally avoid the Kahlered ones though. :P

go for the 6, it has the bound fretboard and headstock, plus it looks to be in much better shape. good luck!

Dude go for the 666, I almost bought it but then I saw a SL-pro(same color CB). The guy who's selling it bought a tele. It might have some fretwear, because it was his only guitar for past 18yrs. At the back there's a (small) ding, were you can see the poplar. I didn't see that pic in his add....

2/4 latches of the M6 are wasted.

I like the sharkies and neck binding on the 6. It also looks to be in better shape, but I'm a two humbucker type of guy, so I would get the 5.

Guys, thanks for all your replies!
I also like the looks of the 6 much better, But I also like the two humbuckers of the 5 and the Kahler.
But I found a blue 6 in good shape on Ebay in Germany, and it also has a kahler. Think I might just go for that one...

If you want a neck humbucker on the 6, you could try a singlecoil sized humbucker there. Or if you decide to go without singlecoils - maybe a sustainer unit? [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
